Traitor or not (key question), am i parting from the Buell,... most likely.
I think i will go Jap, probably not supersport.
What i hate most is the amount of cash i can't get to tweak the newbee. I invested to hard in the XB and it's on loan.
What do you guys consider to be the better choice, still talking of the Japs!?
What is good and why, what is bad and why?
I look for great handling, acceleration, nice smooth injection + real and useful power.
Jap should give more value for money.
Otherswise (not Jap) i like the BMW HP 2 sport (too expensive now). KTM SD didn't appeal to much.
KTM Venom will probably kick my balls:), but to costly (i guess), when it comes. The new Ducce Monster has to little punch to satisfy my urge.
I have thought this over now, long time, many thoughts. Next bike can't be, a to close combatant to the XB, that is not what i want. More sporty in veins of speed and acceleration, but still offering comfort. I gave up on R1:s and the RC8. That is just focus on speed. Has to be a little more than that!

I guess if you were to go Jap, Id go Gixxer 750+ or Bandit. Least thats what id buy if I wanted a 4banger.

The Bandit is a monster of a bike, and still has some decent style so your not so 'cookie-cutter'

Well I'm probably parting with mine aswell, but for different reasons.

Don't get me wrong, I love my buell. One heck of a bike.

I'm just not willing to put up with my dealership. They are great guys, they service the bike properly, but there is NO attention given to buells. I had to wait a month and a half for rider pegs, the only stuff they keep is ulysses spare parts and that is only cause the GM owns one.

What is worse is since I'm 2000miles+ away from the closest producer of exhaust pipes / mirrors / accessories I can't obtain any mods within a reasonable amount of time.

I'm selling it before anything breaks and I stay another month and a half without a bike + not being able to sell it off because of the lack of interested buyers where I live.

If I had a jap bike, and the engine decided to just blow up I can probably get the bike up and running within max 1 week.

Hell the other day I was at a bike shop and they had the corner of the shop full of micron exhausts for yamaha/honda/suzuki/kawasaki all models, NOTHING in the shop for buell, not even a god damn key chain.

I know its part of the package, you pay the price for being unique. I guess Im just not ready to handle that anymore.

Anyways, best compromise of speed and handling I have seen yet is the GSXR750. Very smooth bike, will feel extremely different than the buell. Not THAT uncomfortable, its bearable.

Myself, I'm probably getting a hayabusa. I know its weird Im jumping from a crazy handling bike to a crazy speed bike. Well, I personally hate the sound of inline-4s, but for some reason I loved the tone of the busa. And over here you don't find that many compared to the million 600s/750s/1000s, and you can easily distinguish a busa from the crowd. (maybe cause all the busa owners crashed :X) Besides, change is good, going to be a real challenge carving turns like I do on the buell! (impossible :p)

I agree with the lack of great help from stealership, but you can solve all that ordering everything off the net where you get a better price and shipping time. then just have them install or DIY.

I guess I never gave my opinion on the traitor aspect; No, I dont think your a traitor. Ride what you want or you'll just want to quit riding. (But I know you'll be back)

Try a Bandit, im telling ya they are great bikes, id love to have one parked next to my 12R

sin, the new cb1000r is the one you should look into if you want to go jap.

otherwise i would go for the speed triple, moto morini corsaro, mv agusta brutale, suzuki sv.

I've been having the same questions with my Buell, keep or get something else...

My options to stay with a naked would be:

-Z1000
-cb1000r (if i was in europe)
-KTM super duke
-speed triple

But i think i'd get a
-04+ R1
-06+ ZX10R

LeFox the new cb1000r is great but they are not brigning it to the North America [sad]

I currently ride an 03 R1.. and would not recommend this bike for any type of city riding..(or any other Super Sport for that matter) its brutale. Quick rides is about all this R1 will do.... 0-10mins (lots of fun) 10-15mins (welcome wrist pain) 15-20 mins (get me off)... thats usually how most rides go.... I definitely agree with Thaloc if your goin jap... The Bandit is your best bet.. tonnes of power, comfortable, and a huge aftermarket... Good Luck with whichever you choose.. Next spring I will be buyin' an XB12Scg... For comfort and cool factor..[up]

Haha

You rock dude! Can I ask why all you guys are changing off Buells? I mean I understand service from Harley shops is bad, but you can always find a local shop, record you service, and not void warranty. You can order off the net and get all your parts cheaper, and quicker. But what other reasons are ppl leaving Buell? I mean I couldnt imagine selling my Buell for another bike. I might down the road get a 4banger, but I would never get rid of my Buell for it.

oh and the R1 will be parked in the spare bedroom... for now at least.....Me and her will never part ways.....

I have owned a few Jap bikes (1992 Yamaha FZR600, 1998 GSXR600, 2000 R1, 2000 GSXR1000) all were great bikes but none of them handled as good as my BUELL. Don't get me wrong I would love to have another Jap bike but they cost more in the long run then my Buell and not as fun (Ins is more on Jap, gas milage is less, and there are more possibility for tickets on the Jap bikes).:)

I hada '96 Fizzer Firechicken, sold it to my buddy and i still get on it once in a while. Love those bikes

I had a '96 bandit 600 before I got my lightning...Really fun bike, but underpowered for my size/weight. Some tweaks, you can make your bandit look good...

Here is the b1k3 I sold to my buddy...

Yes, that's the bandit on the right, my '09 lightning in the center, and dave_xb12r's firebolt on the left.

Also notice the XB12Ss bars on the bandit... :D

Man I really like Bandits, I think it might be my next bike, and im usually not to fond of the naked front end.

Thats a nice pic Kajer

But personally if I would go with something else then my Scg it would be the KTM superduke, I test road it and it is an awesome bike. It pull really hard from the start but it really weak up at 6k rpm and then try to keep your front wheel on the ground.

Actually if they don't make my bike running like it should before next season start I might bite the lost and trade it in for the superduke. Even if I love my bike(when it run) I'm starting to loose faith in it.
