Transmission shaft bearing??

I've seen a couple of posts on this before but I can't find them.

The bearing behind the belt spocket fell apart. Needle bearing went everywhere!! Took it to the dealership.......they want $1600 to fix it!!

Anyone else had to deal with this?

Yea, you need to crack the case. Its a big job. $1600.00 seems like a deal!

Well I'll be doing the job myself. I might take some pics along the way but prob not. Just read a service manual. It is pretty good for our bikes.

I Had the same issue. To remome the bearing, i used a dremel to take of the ball bearing. then i weld two bolt on the exterior frame of the bearing. it went out pretty easy. I did the same things with the interior frame of the bearing. The new bearing went on the shaft verry easy too. I used a big socket and hammer it. Be carefull to place the shaft between the gearing of the tranny.

Are you saying you were able to replace the bearing without splitting the case? If so, how did you deal with the shrapnel that would have gone inside the case?

Hi OldGeezer.
Yes I remove it without splitting the case. It take me about 4 hour. I took a lot of precaution to send nothing in the motor. I put a lot of grease and an aluminium paper in the bearing. So when I used the dremel and the welding machine, nothing went inside the motor. I changed the primary oil after that. there were a little bit of '' tiny metal partical'' on the plug. Due of the riding, not from the welding. Those metal partical were from the ball bearing being crushed. So I run about 10 mile and then i flush the primary oil again. there were no more metal partical on the plug.

i would not recommend that solution. riding on borrowed time in my opinion with a rebuild like that.

I know this is not the ideal solution and the way to do it. But my motor and gearing was rebuilt 1000 miles ago. The dealer didn't change that bearing. So I decided to do the job by myself. Didn't want to send them the bike again. So I knew my gearing was in good shape. I didn't have the time to ride hard yet with the new tranny. Like you said Konarider94, maybe the time will tell me if I was wrong or Good

I am pretty sure that the job is well done. I will keep you in touch this summer. I ride 7 000 miles per year. I will see verry quickly if there is something wrong.
