Im getting my new cover in the mail tomorrow and am going to get this thing reassembled, but I have a question. does anyone have any idea how to compress the plate that holds the clutch plates in? when I took the cotter pin out in was decompressed and Im not sure how to get it to be compressed again without the correct tool that threads on to the bolt.

any ideas?

Gotta have the tool man! ;) Some have made it from PVC etc. but if you have the right tool it's cake!

aaahh thats what I was afraid of. where can i find this tool? I wonder if one of the local harley mechanics will let me borrow it for a day :D

gtp: you've been a board member for a long time. why don't you simply post up and ask if another member will lend the clutch hub tool to you? i would if i had 1. any local shop in your area that has worked on XR or other sportsters will probably have it and possibly lend to you with required deposit. worth asking around.

lunatic, I am going to head over to my local harley shop today, I got a friend who works as a mechanic there, he might let me borrow it with a deposit or just as long as I bring it back later today.

I saw the homemade one online and it could work... but id rather not.

If your still in northern illinois you could call Randy's cycle in Marengo some one there might lend it to you.
