Has anybody tried any of their Sportster/Buell exhausts? They look awesome and would sound wicked I'm sure. I want to order some just not sure if they will actually fit and be able to mount. Also what choices would I have for ECM tuning? Any help or opinions would be appreciated
 
Someone posted pics of pipes like that before I just cant seem to find the pic. They work with the foot control.
 
Yeah but how are u supposed to put forward controls on an xb? lookin at the picture it looks like they come down just a couple inches behind the ignition cover which would be in front of the brake lever

Should of just continued on to the back like drag pipes....no different then what they did here trying to put Harley type pipes on a buell.[down] to each there own. Not my style though. I would rather them be turned up in the air coming out of my air box cover like this:D

Looks ugly and don't think the function is any good either. As menthioned, unequal lenght of headers and toatsted toes. Too much open space behind the frontwheel/front of engine. Itlooks b-a-a-a-d.
 
2003xb9r: keep in mind that regardless of what the pipe manufacturer claims or doesn't claim, you will have virtually no back-pressure with these pipes as installed. i have installed perhaps 10 sets of similar pipes on sportsters and big twins and low end torque just disappears. you really have to install exhaust port cones in conjunction with pipes such as this. google vortex exhaust port cones and you'll see what they are and what i'm talking about.
 
So do those weld in or just slip in? And are you talking about the cone-shaped ones or the straight ones?

Start there.

Length and diameter is an issue. To put it simply, longer, smaller primary tubes for lower rpm, and shorter, fatter tubes for higher rpm. In the case of engine displacement a smaller engine requires smaller primary tubes and a larger engine requires larger primary tubes. Putting too large a primary tube on an engine will shift the torque up the rpm scale. It all has to do with the length and volumes of the tubes.

There's a LOT more to it than just that little clip of info. Good luck with whatever you choose to do.


We are going to state this very clearly...Backpressure does not increase horsepower. Period.

An often heard statement from the well-informed is "You need a bit of backpressure for an exhaust to work". Usually this comes from someone who is not a tuner or someone who is faced with a situation where he does not have the tools or means to adjust things. Anything you do in the exhaust will change the flows, the pressures, or velocities somewhat. The correct scenario is that the exhaust has to be properly designed and then you optimize the jetting, ecu data inputs, camshafts, port dimensions, valve sizes and the like. The exhaust has to be designed for the intended use.
