so i had a slow speed high side 3 weeks ago... mostly cosmetic stuff (new mirrors, brake lever, ect.) but when the frame puck on the right side side ripped off it also put a sizable dent in the tank right under where the puck was. there are no fuel leaks thank god, but is it possable to have that dent pulled out or am i stuck with a bondo job just to get the new frame puck on??

The frame is too thick to push the dent out without cracking the aluminum. But if u prep the metal right and use some fiber reinforced fillers as ur base material and then finish with lighter fillers u can make a very durable and unnoticable repair. How bigs the dent??? ne pics?

you can also try the carbon fiber frame covers, there are usually some on ebay

posted some picks of the dent

As much as I love the XB’s I think it was a pretty serious flaw to potentially total a bike for a low speed get off or even a bike falling off the side stand and denting the tank/frame. I thought I was done with what I wanted to do to my XB but I think now I will invest in some tip over protection. Good luck with your dent!

Yep, that's an ugly dent. Looks like you'll have to mask off the area, sand it down, build up with bondo, prime, paint, then put on the slider...

there is an xb9 frame with title for sale in central jersey craigslist for $150. don't know if this helps

copy the web address, click URL tab below the emoticons/above the type space, paste the link into the pop up, then name the link. [up]

that's amazing that dented that deep and didn't puncture. makes me want to buy frame sliders!

Use THIS. It's what I used to fix the same dent in mine, albeit a little worse than that.

We use it in the aerospace industry. To be specific, it's the functional torque load of 757 brakes. ;)

thx... appreciate all the help, hope i can find a buell club in texas when i move in a couple of weeks

Gpan81 i do body work for a living if u have ne questions as you get into doing ur repair just PM me. Just a quick run down of a simple dent repair: Clean the area with soap and water, dry and then clean with wax and gease remover. Determine the extent of the damage and be sure to look for secondary damage(ripples further down the panel caused by the main damage). On damage such as yours it is important to remove all of the paint from the surface where you will be applying body filler Using 80grit. After removing the paint from the repair area clean with wax and grease remover. Then apply filler by pressing it firmly to the surface in id say 1/4-1/2 coats in this case (filling a buell frame is totally different from a normal repair in this respect. i'd never use that much filler in someones car). If u try to glob the whole dent full in one shot the filler could be poorly adhered and could crack, also overly thick application can cause solvent gasses to be trapped in the filler creating air pockets that will also weaken the repair.
After smearing and sanding with 80 grit repeatedly and getting the repair ruffed in, u can move to lighter fillers like glazing putty.(to help u get it ruffed in u could make a card board template from the other side. Glaze putty can be applied over sanded paint in small amounts. Doing so helps to blend ur repair into the non damaged area. Your filler work should be finish sanded with 180 or even finer(as fine as 320) if u are using aresol primer i would recomend working ur filler to a fine grit to prevent sand scratch swelling and prevent having to apply excessive amounts of primer. Since its ur first shot @ this u may notice some flaws in ur repair after u apply ur primer surfacer. Block ur primer out with 180-320 and apply more coats as needed. Hope that helps;)

thx bagger... its gonna be a while before I start the repair, I may hit you up again when I finally do get around to doing it. As for stretch... moving to the Victoria area
