I just ran about 2,500 miles on the expensive Continental TKC80. They offer the tire in a 180/17 for about $230. So after much research, I decided to run a Pirelli Scorpion Rally in a 150/70/17 shipped to me for a total of $136. The Pirelli seated up just fine on the 5.5" wide rim. After leaving tire store, I instantly noticed a better ride due to the Pirelli has taller side walls.

I wonder if there's different compounds... i have now 3000 miles with TKC80 rear and i still have half of knobbies height from new. But most of my rides are on gravel, only about 10% on paved roads

I ride 100% on asphalt and tire tracks great!

If I may ask, if you ride only on asphalt, why the knobys ? For looks ? I absolutely love the look but are'nt you compromising handling for looks ?

Atomic,
I just purchased that same tire. It seems that it is a newer version of the Scorp6uon Rally. I could not find the front tire that matches the rear. Did you go with the older version on the front? Where did you buy them? I noticed the pegs on the front. What are they for and where can I get some? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks.

Yea, I was wondering the same thing. Kinda like buying hiking boots to wear as house slippers...[confused]

I am about to replace my rear, but to get knobblies for my mostly commuting is not worth it.

I need streetable tyres that'll give me decent mileage and will capable of the odd off-road trip.

Plus, getting dualsport tyres over here to fit the Uly is almost impossible, have to take what I can get.

Market is mostly geared for BMW /KTM....

Thinking of Pirelli Scorpion Tials.

Thr Pirellis will probably work well for the occasional unpacked road, but I sure wouldn't want to find myself in mud, sand or vegetation with them.

Another manufacturer you might try is Shinko; they have a variety of 17" 50/50 70/30 & 80/20 tires some of which may fit a Uly(?).

Heidenau also makes 17" Supermoto 'dirt track' & dual sports that may work for you too (?).

Just got my pirelli scorpion rally tire today and it is pretty sick looking. I know it is going to make the Uly look pretty bad ass. I had to go with a Heidenau K60 for the front since there is not one on the scorpion rally size. I will post pictures later on.
