I found a used 2004 firebolt xb12r with 20,000 miles on it. All stock...seller wants $4200...what would you pay?

Closer to $3000 I would think. But sometimes you have to take what you can get. Where I am, there are never a lot of used Buells around, so I ended up paying a bit more when I finally found one. Good luck!

I would think less than $4200 also but seller will finance. Is 20,000 miles alot for these bikes? I have 36,000 on my yamaha and still runs fine. He also has a 2007 xb9r with 10,000 miles for $5500. Is there a big power difference from the 9r and 12r? I wouldn't mind an 09 but the nearest dealer is over 200 miles away.

I bought my 04 12r w/ 16,500 miles for $3900, but I also had to drop a few hundred into it to get everything right.

I would say $4200 is fair if it's in great shape.

Here's a thread showing the differences between the year models. They might not be considered deal breakers, but there are some differences you might not be aware of. - Differences in Year Models

Good luck with your decision! Either way, it'll be a Buell so you can't go wrong there. ;)[up]

I agree with dave go for the 07. also IMO there is not a huge enough power difference between the 9 and 12. I have an 03 firebolt 9r and LOVE it... best choice ever coming from a jap bike

Yeah the 9's actually have more potential, and they rev higher. For sure, new 9 over old 12

If you are buying from a dealer, about 99% of the time they paid much less for the bike then what they are selling it for. I would guarantee that there is some room to talk them down in price. I'm not sure what your credit score is like, but I would also shop around if i was going to finance the bike.

Credit unions are pretty good with interest rates. I've done this a few times where i show up with less money but they take it (i.e. show up with a check for $5,000 for the xb9R)..... i learned from my buddy was to get the loan from somewhere that has the better interest rate, bring the check and flash it in the salesman's face.....see if he bites. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.

BTW there are people with xb9r and xb12's that have over 45K with no major issues. They are good bikes! I think a lot of guys will tell you that!

To finance my new bike I went to chase which is my bank. I have decent credit, and took out a new credit card with a $9k max (only used $4250 of it). I have 6 months no APR and am hoping to pay it all off within that time frame. After 6 months it goes up to 6.24% apr...cheaper than anything else I could find. When the card it had a check with it. Made it out to myself and deposited into bank account and then wire transferred it out to the seller. I am pretty happy with no interest for 6 months and 6.24% APR after that. I think it is their platinum card.

Might be worth looking into?

I did the same thing, cash advance on a 0% credit card. My card has no interest for a year. Paid $4,000 for my bike. I send $350 a month and plan to have the bike paid off before the standard interest rates kicks in.

cmekillu,

I'd be hesitant paying that much for a bike with 20k on it, unless the person selling was a close friend of mine and I could observe their riding style.

That being said, it's entirely up to you, I recently got into an 04 XB12R and would have been willing to pay a heck of a lot more knowing what I know now. It's a dream machine in my opinion.

Good luck,
-J

i puchased my 03 bolt with 4080 miles for 4500 with k&n filter, buell race exhaust and race ecm. I would go with the 9.

*update* I really haven't made up my mind yet on any bike. Hell I would love an 09 lightning but I don't have any dealers close. If I was to get a new buell...could any harley dealer work on it if I had problems or would it have to be a buell dealer?

yeah the ones I have seen were hd/buell dealers. Would just an hd dealer be able to perform warranty work/recall work?

Not sure on that one, maybe BPG will chime in. In my mind, if there's a Buell tech. there, they probably can. If all else fails though, call.
