Okay here it goes.....
Riding on the highway my cel came on bike started sputtering lights went dim. Got her home replaced the battery(which was obviously failing) and started it back up and it was misfiring and smelling gas horribly! Changed plugs (which were fine) and then did a tps reset. Idled better but when full throttle it would do some chugging on acceleration. And took it back home and next day I started it and it's idling awful and the gas smell is back. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks

Luke

Luke- To help us and future Buell owners that may read this thread looking for answers;what model, year and mileage bike you having issues with?
Sounds like something is shorting out in your spark/coil/ignition system. Some sort of electrical gremlin. Are all your plug wires in good condition? All the grounds good and clean all around the bike?
Pull your front pulley cover and check all the connectors and wires. Sounds like something is causing a misfire or electrical hiccup.
I'm sure my suggestions aren't a cure all but it's a good place to start.
Good luck

A bad battery won't make the lights dim and engine sputter while riding, unless a cell gets shorted.

But a bad charging system will every time, once the bike drains to battery to nothing.

The gas smell is probably because the plugs don't have enough electricity to fire, so raw fuel is passing through the engine.

Check your charging system by putting a voltmeter on the battery (they can be free at Harbor Freight:up:). It should read 12.3-12.5 volts. Now start the bike and rev to 2500 RPM. It should read between 13.5 and 14.7 volts.

i was having this exact same issue on my 08 xb12r. turns out, the screws holding the battery tray vibrated out, and left my battery bouncing around. My negative cable then got ever so slightly loose, but loose enough for the cable to move and loose connection. causing dim lights, sputtering, and poor runablity. just tighten that **** up. another problem that this caused was my battery terminals made contact with the sub frame section that the seat slides into, causing the terminals to weld the battery screws into place
