Sooooooo .... I've been doing a few datalog rides lately and I recently installed a small voltmeter into my dash (all the V/R issues that I read about on this forum when I first got this bike before I was an active member really had me watching my charging system like a hawk) ... And occasionally on my rides when I open the throttle up I'll see the voltage drop down to just normal battery voltage (11.5 - 12 volts), as in the charging system seems to cut out for maybe a second (if that) and then it picks right back up to normal charging voltage (14 - 14.1 volts) ... also, when reviewing the logs I'll keep an eye on the battery voltage values and I'll see the dips in the log but occasionally it registers some spikes as well ... almost 17 volts sometimes ... but they are very short in duration and don't happen often ... Just curious to see if anybody else has observed something like this during their datalogging ... Thoughts? ... Comments??? .... Go F yourself negative????? ....

Go F yourself negative????? ....
That sounds about right. Jk, ive ran my bile with an ociliscope on the battery before and in a 20 mile ride i did not record anything that high or low for any duration of time. This was after new regulator and stator.

Could your regulator be malfunctioning at the top end of your gears when you get in it. Allowing it to show some spikes around 17v when your stator is moving fastest?

Eat a bag of dicks crash!! ... hahaha jp man ...

Ocilloscope?? ... Gettin a lil high tech on me here dawg ... hahaha!! ... As far as I know this is the original V/R and stator ... And it only dips and spikes occasionally and for a very short duration, but I never see the spikes on my voltmeter ... I see the dips but they're just as short as the spikes ...

It's very possible but these spikes tend to occur around the 2.5k - 3.5k rpm range ... Higher and lower rpm ranges tend to be pretty stable as far as I can see in the datalog records ...

Negative,

I had an issue with voltage spikes and long story short the stator had fried a coil. My .02 cents is break open the primary and pull the rotor and look at the stator. You'll know if it's fried. It'll cost you time and an oil change.

FWIW my issue was it was spiking to 17+ which will trip my HID's.

Before my charging system completely failed, i had about a year of blowing tail light bulbs and head lights, with my lights regularly going dim, bright normal, dim normal bright. Eventually it did fail, whether it was the VR taken out by the stator or just by chance i ended up replacing both one right after another.

See i know you meant that, and im still not offended. In the end, you ride a Buell and that makes you a loser!.... Wait... ****.... So do I.... [mad]

Hahaha!!!!... Guess that really does go to show ya that great minds do think alike... :p

Also... That sounds gator inspection sounds like a fun idea... Looks like I've got a project this weekend... Thanks for the input!!... I honestly appreciate it...
