I’m refreshing the fuel pump assembly and I pulled my new walbro 521 out of the box and it sounds like a Maraca! I’m a little hesitant to put this in. I’m thinking I either got one of the super ultra rare small batch Caribbean made walbro fuel pumps, which would totally justify the maraca music I’m hearing, or I need to send this pump back. Anybody else used the Caribbean version pump?

When the pump is in the frame under fuel with a new exhaust and ear plugs, it should sound great from my house.

I have never had a noisy walbro. Did you bench run it? Louder when ran dry?

Fresh out of the box, shake it back and forth and it sounds like there is bb or something loose in there. I did bench test it dry. It ran but sounded labored. But then I wondered if it sounded labored cause it’s never had fuel in it. I’m thinking at this point since getting to the fuel pump sucks I’ll just send it back for a replacement.

34:19, that’s what I thought too. Maybe once fuel is ran through it, it would sound correct. However it’s the nickel in a coffee can sound that has me concerned. Either way I’m waiting to here back from the seller. Got a wiring harness project I can work on while I wait.

Walbros are gerotors pumps.
Only thing that might rattle maybe the return pin on the top if it has one. Or a check ball on the inlet?

Walbros are gerotors pumps.

Are they? My foggy brain remembered vanes on the rotor, not 2 gears? and I can only find an exploded view of the 521 chainsaw carb...lol.
No worries, You're probably right and I'm used to being wrong, and it really doesn't matter anyway:) The point is... it shouldn't rattle unless its a diaphragm 'rattler' pump, which it definitely is not. and not worth installing if it's making noise and worrying the OP.

The 521 that Buells use do have a spring loaded check ball in the inlet, but it better seal tighter than rattling!

Just found this on Walbros site. If its on the internet, it must be true.
