I'm looking for the nicest way to organize my extra Buell wheels and plastics in my garage. I'm essentially looking for a wall mounted wheel hanger with a 1" diameter powdercoated pipe. I found this from Merrick Machine, but it has a 1.5" pipe, so it won't fit through the axle of the Buell wheels. If anyone has something similar, I'd love to se your set up.

I use shelves for wheels and stack the air boxes inside of each other with foam between them on top shelf.

You can make something by welding 7/8" bar or all thread to a flat plate. And mount that to a wall. Wouldn't go 1", something smaller will give wiggle room if needed. They take up a lot of space and 40+lbs (full rotor & tire) each adds up quick so make sure it's well secured.

I've thought of running by one of the local welding shops to have something made, and then send it out to the powder coater. I've read of someone finding a great deal at a Harbor freight for a similar mount (on clearance for around $5 ea), so I wanted to throw this out there just in case.

I'm literally heading to harbor freight right now, I don't remember seeing anything like that before, but if I do I'll check out the quality.

Just go to a fab shop around you. Chances are they have scrape pieces in the sizes you need, if they're a decent business they will punch some holes and weld it up for you fairly cheap. I would suggest using spax screws for securing it to the wall. Put a couple of those in studs and its good to go.

If all you want is a pipe sticking out of the wall go buy a section of iron pipe. Most hardware stores will cut and thread one end for you. Or sometimes you can buy a small section threaded both ends and just cut the threads off one end. Thread the other end into a pipe flange and bolt to wall securely. The flanges aren't very big so make sure its attached well. How many are you wanting to store on one rod?

Putting motorcycle tires on those, unless you can fill the whole rack will be a pain. They will fall over, also those types of racks can induce flat spots.

Have you ever had a flat spot? I leave mine sitting on the concrete all winter and don't have an issue with flat spots. I think that's just something people like to say because it sounds good in theory.

If you start at one end they wont fall over. I dont even know why Im arguing about a tire rack....[confused] It holds tires.

I do tire testing for a living... Short term it's fine, but extended storage can leave spots, since it is a specific spot.

Wasn't saying it isn't a nice rack, just giving my experience. Just saying the first type is better for the tire.

Thanks for the replies...and debate. :)

If it was purely for storage, I think the racks listed would probably work just fine. In my case though, it is part storage and part display, so I'd rather have them mounted with the face of the rim showing. I'm a horrible artist, but this is my general idea. I haven't measured my wall to see exactly how many color sets I can fit on the wall in addition to my storage rack, but I'm guessing around 5-6 sets.

I've had flat spots by leaving a bike on a stand longer than a month and wheels with tires got groves from sitting on grated wire mesh shelving for 6 months.

I put a pieces of carpet scraps under the wheels now so that won't happen

I've been looking into this for a little while, and I haven't really been thrilled with any of the wall options, so I'm looking at doing something more like this. This is from a company in the UK, but if anyone knows of something similar here in the US, I would love to know about it. I've emailed the company asking for a price shipped to the States. Hopefully I'll hear back soon. This looks like a well thought out and fabricated rack. Wheels mount though the center, so no flat spotting, and it has places for four front wheels and four rear wheels, which should be perfect for my purposes.

When ordering stands from Pitbull, I came across their Tire Tree, and it was just about as perfect as I could have asked for. Looks great, matches my other stands, fits the wheels perfectly, not too expensive, etc.

So now my updated plan for my back wall of the garage looks more like this. With just over 11 feet, I'm only going to have room for two Tire Trees and four color sets. It means using an adjacent wall for other stuff like spare parts, oil, tools, etc. but I think this would look pretty good. Also to keep everything even and allow me to change things as I go easily, I'm leaning towards adding a section of slats with the sliding hooks that can be positioned anywhere.

I've got wall mounts from Pitbull on order for the front and rear stands, but I don't think I'll be able to incorporate them on this wall without making things look too cluttered. If anyone has any pics of what they've done, I'll open for suggestions.
