My wife & I want a Buell Lightning, & I'm really leaning towards an SCG to fit her shorter frame. She's 5'5" & wants to be flat footed. Prefer a Cherry Bomb colored bike, but will make an exception for a black one that we can mount Cherry Bomb parts onto. Prefer low miles & bikes that haven't seen the pavement, but will consider any & all bikes.

A few questions for the hive since I'm kind of uneducated on these cool bikes. The SCG came with a shorter seat AND subframe? Did the SCG come with different suspension as well? Any shorter folks < 5'6" have issues with a standard model getting both feet firmly on the ground? I'd consider an S if we can verify that extra 1.5" wouldn't be a detriment to my wife's confidence.

Thanks for the help. I'm constantly combing CraigsList, ebay, & Trader for bikes. We have money & are ready to make a deal!

Biggest difference is the 1-1.5" drop suspension provides. Mainly the rear shock. The seat doesn't make much difference over the standard S seat. There is also a tall seat which is too tall for your needs.
Sure some will disagree with me but that's MHO...

Gotcha, thanks! SCG it is. This is more bike than anything she's ever ridden, & I don't want her anything less than confident & comfortable.

I'm 5'9" on a good day, and I cannot flat foot on my SX. The scg seat is painfull... Your best bet is an SCG over an S to leave you open to more comfy seat options.

I suggest Get a 9sl... It's not that much slower, still faster than the sportster with it's 100 lb handicap over the XR.

Please, please do not buy a sportster for your wife! The Scg is perfect. It is light, very easy to turn, has excellent brakes and isn't top heavy like a sporty. The short wheelbase with the mid controls are also significant factors.

I have put two women on my Scg and watched them overcome their fear of riding. Both of them came from cruisers and fell in love the Scg.

The XB12Scg is pretty quick and has plenty of power. Make sure she has the experience and comfort level to ride one.

Good luck on your search.

Might be selling my baby... (Rowlett, TX)
2003 XB9S with SCG suspension. Lowered seat was re-worked/shaped with gel insert.
Brand new Pilot Road 4's. Top end rebuilt about 15 (fifteen) miles ago. 25k on bike.
Tons of mods....

I bought a street legal dirt bike (WR450F) and once I'm done building it, wife says I have to decide which one to keep and sell the other :-(

I'm in no hurry though and it'll be at least a couple more weeks before I can pull the WR out for first ride. That's if baby #2 doesn't come early.... Wifes about ready to pop :)
