I've got a 07 xb12r and was wondering what I can do to get more topend without going to a chain

get a bowl of rice, reduce it to paste then add chinese wine. pour it in to the gas tank...there you have it. according the legend, it will give you 69 PP (panda power). :D

Gosh,you guys said what I was thinking...:D
Although ,maybee the turbo buell...

I believe the sportster front pulleys face the opposite direction and are not of proper splining or depth to even make work

also, adding 2 teeth (sporty is 29 tooth up from 27) will put more tension on the belt and may eat teeth... I've heard many horror stories from attempts (actually two today even)

I have a sporty 29T sitting here on my desk as I type.

without going to chain final drive you will need to change gearing in the primary instead.

There is one option everyone has overlooked[smirk]

Here is the link and a picture, is it worth it?, well that is up to you. It says it is only for the '03 model but you can buy a belt for that year and mount it as well to run on your bike.

Trojan Horse Pulley

Description: $785 (plus $175 for new belt), $960[down]
Superbly crafted aluminium billet drive and rear pulley kit designed to improve top speed or as an overdrive(Gives 10% RPM reduction). Surface hardened for long life and hard anodised in dark grey. The front pulley has a removeable steel inner section. Retains standard belt and tensioner or can use our sprung tensioner assembly. Fits 2002-2003 XB9 Models ONLY.

looking at some of readers pics it looks like some of the rear pulleys are smaller I think some of the earlier bikes am i wrong

the rear pulley was a different size on the older bikes because the teeth were smaller thus circumference and subsequent diameter change.

I would not recommend using an 03 drive on a 12 at all, guys with 03's can rip the belts up acting aggressive (2003's were only 9's and rated lower than the current XB 9) so a 12 would likely kill a belt on a regular basis if you are riding it hard or trying to get top end out of it.

agreed
10% is marginal

even if it were 10% more top end it would add what 13.5MPH?

no idea what a 10% difference in RPM would do without looking at the numbers

13.5 mph for a $1000 investment [down]

I can do 220kmph when needed..
fast enough for this cat

If I had wanted top end I would have bought a ricer
:D

yes but riding down the highway at 80 would drop your rpm = better fuel milage and less strain on the engine

yes but riding down the highway at 80 would drop your rpm = better fuel milage and less strain on the engine
yea by 10%
that would take me from a 4500RPM cruise to a 4050 rpm cruise on the highway

not a significant drop in my opinion especially for the price.

for 200-300 you could go chain drive and gear it any way you want, and it will be easy to change gearing too.
