Well Brett, Mike and I decided to hit up Palomar today and as the title states I went down. The crazy part is we were not even riding hard when it happened. We had just passed a group of cars and Mike was leading with myself in the middle and Brett was taking up the rear. We entered a 180 degree right hand turn at about 25-30 mph and right at the apex the rear of my bike slid out from under me and I ended up doing about a 280 degree spin on the ground before I came to a stop. I immediately picked up the bike and and hoped on and rode it to the shoulder to survey the damage. Now your probably wondering about the smiling part by now but it will make since in a minute. So I get to the shoulder and to my amazement almost nothing was damaged. I walked away with a broken bar end mirror, a scratched peg, rear brake lever and rear slider and that is it, well that and a little rash in my leathers. The even crazier part is like a minute after I went down a guy on a GSXR went down in the same corner and slid into the guard rail a dam near totaled his bike. After we helped him we found that there was about a 60 foot strip of transmission fluid in the center of the lane. So we sprinkled dirt on the oil and worked it in and then wrote OIL on the road about 100 feet before you enter the turn to warn other riders of the evil corner. Well here is the aftermath.

I am so lucky

And a pic of me telling my bike she is ok and I will fix her as good as new

So I'm thinking about $90 to fix the bike and now you know why I am smiling after a crash.

too bad the ad runs thru your story nitto but I am glad you both are ok, altho she suffered a wee bit rashing it looks rather minor....
:)

Welcome to the club! I had a similar lowside last year going a little faster. If it wasn't for the fact that my dealership charged me triple labor for fixing my bike, I would have been smiling too. I think being how I slid 100' and only got a little scrape where the asphalt wore through the glove, it was pretty damn fun. Go buy a lottery ticket cuz it's your lucky day!

Ditto! Looks like your riding gear did its job! :):):)Could have been much worse.

It baffles me why I still see others riding without helmets, boots and jackets! The really stupid ones I've seen....no shirt, shorts and flipflops!

Glad to see you wear yours!:D

Sorry you went down but great that there wasn't much damage and you weren't hurt.

Funny, I think it's the same for everyone - first check after a slide is the bike THEN you check yourself. :D

My crash was nothing compared to this. Never new this happened today until I checked the pics from Ricks sight, hope this guy is alright. Well that makes 3 bike that went down on Palomar today that I know of.

any crash you walk away from is a good one. i did it once @ 60mph on my springer. totalled the bike but i walked away with a few scratches and light bruises. what is more, i should have been a hood ornament on the two cars that ran me off the road. so while i lost the bike, i kept my life. if i never do that again it will be too soon.

glad you are o.k..

You guys got some great pics on that ride!!!

Sorry about the wreck. It was nice of you guys to try and warn other riders.

Glad your alright and the bike only has a couple scratches on her.

Those pics of the Honda rider going down are crazy.

Wow Nitto, that was ALL kinds of lucky! Looks like the axle slider and peg took most of the hit. Mirrors are cheap and .... +1000000 for leathers! Glad you're ok!

Sorry about the wreck, glad you are alright. Your protective gear did it's job. Looks like only minor damage to the bike. Welcome to the club, there are two types of motorcyclists, those that have been down and those that are going down. I had a lady t-boned me almost three years ago and high sided my Electra Glide a little over a year ago. Motorcycling is Darwinism at it's finest, you either evolve or become extinct.

Great pics.Sorry you took a spill but the gear did a great job. Here in Hawaii I see more scraped up people from stupid moves. Its sad to see a helmet strapped to the bike and a guy or a few couples down and head injury with the helmet still attached....nuts

Good job on coming out of a spill smiling!

You've motivated me to find some axle sliders before the start of my season.!.

Nitto...glad you're ok. I lowsided on the bike's left side as well. My damage was about the same. Axle sliders and bar end mirror took the hit. I did break my shift lever, but rode that bastard home in 3rd gear. Torque FTW!

And ya can't beat leathers if you gotta meet the pavement. I didn't have a scratch on me.
