I've gotten to the stage in my life where as much as I HATE to get my hands greasy, I've come to the conclusion that I need to learn how to do basic maintenance myself rather than waiting on my hubby. But, I'm not sure what all that actually is. I know I need to learn how to change my own oil. And, I should probably learn how to change tires on my own-especially since I need a new back tire at least once a year. But, what else should I know how to do, and how's the best way to go about learning how to do it?

Learn by practice some things are intimidating but once you do them you will wonder why you where scared. Just ask questions here you will be fine.

get a manual, they all have step by step procedures for just about everything, and if you come up with questions just ask on here or something. 90% of the battle is getting started

Steng and Inman both spot on! You'll find these bikes can be worked on with little experience as long as you research and study what your attempting to do before you do it, and use common sense. Read the service manual and ask questions.

As for the tires, front tire is easy to change manually, rear is more difficult. Not to remove, but to physically get the tire back on the wheel. Short sidewall makes for a lack of flexibility which makes it difficult to get back over the wheel lip. Might be better off removing the rear wheel and taking it into a shop. just my opinion. Front is no problem.

Oil is easy. There's a link to the top right of the page for several step by step DIY videos, one of which includes changing the oil.

Good luck!

Wheres lesley with at with a torque wrench!?!

Just kidding, but youll be surprised how easy it actually is. My girl change her own oil in her blast didnt even ask me a thing just did it with some research aka halfagiraffe on here ask her she knows better than me. The primary fluid and chain adjust ok thats kinda a pain though.

Changing the oil was cake on the blast. Looking up directions on how was actually harder than physically doing it. Let me know if you need a walk thru.

It's always good to be able to matinence your own bike. Everyone here is super helpful, don't be scared to ask if you get stuck. =]
