Are they different lengths? Also, are the power outputs of the lightning, and the firebolt the same? Thanks for any help. Steve

search lightning vs firebolt on this forum, there are alot of good threads. The output is the same, same motor, same trans. but different riding position, foot peg locations, bars, fairings, and seats. theres many more differences and similarities but roughly its your riding preference.

Also, IIRC, the XB12SS has 2 degrees more rake which makes it a tiny bit less flickable and a tiny bit more stable, compared to the XB12S. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that's the case.

The SS is a longer wheelbase version of the XB series. It has a longer frame and swingarm. The geometry is a bit more standard and it has more room for taller riders. It does carry a bit more fuel and shares the powertrain with other 1203 buells.

I have tried to point some differences of the SS and S on pics.

SS has:
- longer Seat
- longer Sub-Frame (underseat rails)
- longer Rear Wheel Fender
- longer Swing Arm
- longer Belt Guards
- different Frame (longer I believe. Hard to see)
- higher Suspension

The SCG have lower Suspension and lower Seat.

If I am not mictaken the Firebolt is almost the same S version but with different Front Fairing (Mount and Lights) and Subframe (tail Section with seats)

here is some info i posted on this thread, differences between S & Ss

Packing a one-two combination of V-Twin muscle and innovative engineering, the Lightning is a motorcycle designed to excel in the real world, where torque trumps horsepower and credibility is earned on the streets and backroads.

2008 -Buell-LightningSuperTT XB12STT = The Lightning Super TT brings Supermoto-inspired styling and performance to the street. A narrow-and-flat solo seat makes it easy to move and set up for the next turn. Wide, flat handlebars provide outstanding leverage and centered foot peg placement puts the rider in an athletic position. The clipped, black cast-aluminum tail section shows off the 180 mm rear tire. White number plate side panels and flyscreen add a competition look, and are designed to be personalized and are easy to change. Fork slider protectors, handlebar deflectors, cosmetic frame protectors, a high front fender and headlight grille protect the Super TT from the abuse of the street. The 54-inch wheelbase gives the rider room to work, but retains that trademark Buell agility, while 6.25 inches of suspension travel keeps the Super TT well-planted on rough pavement.

ok, really old thread but would be nice to get info if someone has, how much actually differs saddle on xb12s vs xb12ss long ? is it really that much bigger that you can ride confy with an adult passenger ? not to tour around the world, but from time to time my lady wants to ride with on mabey a over day trips !
have tried to find data on actual saddle size but not able to yet.. :(

i've owned 4 of the Ss/lightning "long" models and they are nice, comfortable, roomy enjoyable rides. the basic ergonomics are the same as any lightning from the same year BUT they're stretched out, if that makes sense....and a bit roomier in both the distance to bars and foot-pegs. the entire bike not quite as cramped and compact as a standard lighting or cityX.
link below tells you everything you need to know.

https://www.buellxb.com/forum/showt...the-differences-between-XB12s-and-XB12Ss-long

great ! thanks for the info and link  Few days ago I drove far just to try out a xb12ss long. Discovered a nice big saddle and all. But a whole different problem for me was the ergonomics or geometry of the bike. I felt like sitting very much forward oriented position with low flat handlabars, lower than I expected, and felt like I was positioned above the front wheel in some weird way ! Hope u know what I'm trying to say ;) but other than that , I liked the crazy bikes looks anyway. So now I'm wandering if risers and pullback of the handlebars will alter the riding posture feeling ? Can anyone pitch in who knows or done this with his/her Xb12s or ss ? thanx very m.
