Ok, I have not given up on AX yet, probably should though, but I must ask the question: Which motorcycle on the current market is most like a Uly? I have some thoughts and one in particular stands out, and it is a Japanese make that I have only sat on, but not ridden. Dealers now a days have issues with test riding brand new bikes?

I will say that the two I'd be most interested at this point are the super tenere and the triumph tiger. The BMW does absolutely nothing for me and suzukis always feel horribly cheap to me so I avoid them.

Air cooled. None
V Strom is pretty interesting, wheelies like crazy.
I'd say FJ-09 is winning some people over
Definitely the BMW GS (kindof sole purpose of the uly to give Harley something near those)

I'm shocked to see Ulysses prices so low. There is a sick 2009 in TN right now. I'm arranging finances but hoping someone who's never experienced Buells jumps on it before I have to buy it

This :D

"most like" as in seat height...suspension....wheel size....curb weight...performance...stance....seating ergonomics....luggage capacity....bang for the buck(subjective)....mpg. it's the BMW GS800 with factory luggage

Don't know why I didn't think of this. KTM 1290 Super adventure. It's basically what the AX would be most like. Rotax motor, tons of twin power. There's your bike.

Lots of (justified) comparisons to the BMW GS so far, but It's worth noting that the Beemer is an immensely more competent bike off-slab than the Uly. It's got:
- more power with smoother delivery
- more fuel capacity
- smaller turning radius
- a 19" front wheel
- more ground clearance
Unfortunately it also happens to cost a lot more than the Buell!

This bike is in my immediate Area for $10,999 as shown:

I have only sat on it but the height and geometry seem similiar. Appears the 2014 and newer have similiar specs as a Uly as far as HP and Torque. Anybody ridden this one? It is a 2014/2015 VStrom 1000 ABS Adventure. It did not feel cheap just sitting on it, but riding it is a different story altogether. Also seems it is not maintenance intense as well as easy to maintain. Yes looking at bang for the buck, V Twin, geometry, fuel economy, luggage capacity, seems like for this bike to store a helmet you will need the rear top case, I do not think the side cases can hold one like on a Uly? Also a Uly is about 103 HP/ 84lbs torque which is enough for me, being able to cruise and go up to120 MPH is all I need. I think the KTM 1290 adventure as well as others are way overboard on cost, HP, Torque, etc..

Just a quick scan of the internet:
2015 KTM Super Adv without luggage about + $20,000
2014 BMW R 1200 GS/Adv + $20,000
2014 F800 GS without luggage + $13,090

Going to look at the VStrom at lunch today.

if you don't mind chain drive the V-strom with factory side bags is a phenomenal bike and great deals to be had out there. 90 degree V-twin...bombproof driveline...suzuki reliability...tons of dealers nationwide...tons of reasonably priced aftermarket stuff in the pipeline...and many websites devoted to same. i love the damn things.

I really like the new triumph tigers, really mean looking. And that triple, yum. Only ~100hp though, which is great for a air cooled v-twin, but not so hot considering the liquid cooled 800cc triple.

I saw honda is making an adventure bike too, at least i saw a "tease" for it. Might want to look into that.

Multistrada (no luggage) starts @17,9xx.
v storm does sound good when you look at it on paper.
I cant even come close to touching the ground on a tiger. ...and I'm sure the price is like the seat height.

Just looked at the 2015 VStrom ABS Adventure. It is almost ULY except:
The hard sides cannot hold a helmet, but the top case will but it is not stock and about $800 more.
Also from the Ad above the price does not include the hard sides? so the price is actually $11,815.00 as shown above? Whats up with that I ask the stealership?
You also have to pay for heated hand grips which is an add-on accessory? Not sure how much?
Told the stealership I was going to look for a used one or a better deal next year?
Of course I cannot afford anything right now, so still holding out for an AX someday.

not to try and push you to the V-storm, but my buell top and side cases cost me $1400 new (the top was 700) i beleive the original MSRP on a new uly (in 07) was 11,495... and if you bought an X u didnt get heated grips.
