Topic says it all. The dealer is telling that it is 450 degrees. I Tried looking for the number to Buell to ask them myself. But couldn't find it.

So looking for your responses to what the experts here say what the normal temp is supposed to be.

Or if anyone has the number to Buell, that would be great too.

thanks

Hey Red,

I think I remember that the fan comes on at 320 F.
I think that is the max safe operating temp. I could be wrong, just something that popped in my head.

How would one be able to tell the temp anyway? Other than your legs burning like hell and maybe an engine light coming on.

ECMSPY has an engine temp readout (as CLT measured at the cylinder head).

I did some datalogging on my 12R yesterday. My logs show a max CLT of 243(C) which equals 469(F). Ambient air temp was in the upper 80's/low 90's with datalogging during "spirited" riding and frequent WOT with a couple of baking periods at stoplights.

Note that normal warmup temp is around 300(F). This is about where the cold start enrichment (automatic choke) turns off and the fuel map enters open loop. So, I'd say that the normal temp range is between 300-460 (maybe a little higher if you live in or near the desert).

Looks like your dealer might be correct.
