What oil should I use in my XB12R

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I can tell you that the switch to Amsoil has allowed me to reliably find neutral. Any synthetic (true synth) is going to have advantages over dino oil. Motul makes a good product as well. A (car) road racer friend of mine swears by it in his scary fast STI.

Do some research... in other words do NOT go on a forum... and see which one suits you best.

I bought 3 quarts of full syn Mobil-1 20W50 for the engine. Can't hurt anything.
It runs great and goes into neutral reliably with whatever black **** is in there.

^^^correct

NY driver, we didnt mean to come across as A-holes earlier. Ive gotten the same treatment for asking a redundant question on a forum

The important thing is - youre on the right bike! There are lots of absolute Buell addicts on this site that will be more than happy to help when you have a question (some will tell you to google it first, tho)

Make sure to put a healthy dab of blue loctite on that drain plug and check it after several miles of riding

.....oh..... and Michelin Power Pures are the best tires to put on your bike. Let no one tell you otherwise :D

Yep was all helpful.

I knew I needed more for the primary....think the oil change can wait for tomorrow.

Getting everything to fit back together after double wrapping the header was pretty much a nightmare.[mad]

I'm going riding if I can get the shock bolt back in.:)

Really? This "forum" is one of the best places to learn about your machine and how to maintain/repair it. Same for Flying forums, R/C forums, etc. The caveat is that you can't believe every single post you read unless the source is valid or the information has been confirmed. By a consensus. So, if a a dozen or so XB'ers are telling you that Amsoil or Mobile one is good oil because it has been recommended by people they trust and they have had good experience with it, it probably is.

The Internet is really the information super-highway. The source of consolidated information. The days of going to the old guy at Autozone or the Motul mobile vendor for advice are long gone...

I learned a lot by watching what the club and pro racers did out at the track--and hanging out with them in their garages. Not many of us have that luxury, so we rely on others that have done that, or have trial-and-errored their way to success.

My point is that asking about oil is like asking about what is the best music. You are not going to get OBJECTIVE statements from anyone. Everyone has a preference, everyone has an opinion. Opinion has nothing to do with the objectivity of how an oil performs.

I was running hd twenty fiddy syn... Last time around tryin redline... Other than nuetral a lil easier to find... Hard to say if my bike likes it better.

Maybe I will try some custard or bannana pudding next time.

son of a bitch..........i love a good oil discussion.
20-50 castrol act-evo here......in motor and primary.

by the way, 2007 and up toyota yaris 1.5liter oil filter fits our XB's. $3 at local ****-mart.

In case anyone cares I put Mobil 1 in the engine and Amsoil in the primary, both full syn 20W50.

My bike must be way happier now.;)
