As I get older, I realize there are times that I would like to take a spin on the back streets of my city, not going out on the freeway or country roads. FWIW, every time I get on my bike I always wear leathers. They have served me well. I cringe at 18 year old girls on a moped in shorts and no helmet. Lord help 'em.

Just wondering what other folks are wearing when you hop on the bike to run across town? PIA to put on the leather gear to run to the store. (You all will tell me to just take the car!)

Personally I look for reasons to take the bike and NOT the car!

I only own one piece of leather and it is a jacket I wear in cooler weather. Commuting to work in the summer and running around town I wear a Klim Induction jacket - it's grey mesh, breaths amazing despite having full pads and the color doesn't soak up the sun. Normally on quick runs I'll just throw on some Bull-it motorcycle riding jeans - allegedly they are made with stronger, abrasion resistant material and I do have some Ghost knee pads in them so at least there is some protection there. I always wear riding boots but this year I'm on the hunt for some shorter ones with side zippers just to make it quicker because, to your point, I hate feeling like I'm prepping for an expedition when I'm just going 5 minutes into town...

But yeah, I'm pretty much an ATGATT guy myself and I never so much as put a bike into gear without helmet and gloves on.

Speaking of gloves: I suffered a slow speed low-side last year near my office (right-hand turn into an oil slick in the road I couldn't see due to flat light conditions...). I was wearing Klim Induction gloves and sliding just a few feet on very smooth blacktop tore the knuckle open and peeled off some flesh. I've decided mesh gloves are just no good for road use!

I don't commute with the bike and have for years just took it out on spirited excursions, when I lived in a rural area. Now I live in the city, was wondering about mesh riding gear to throw on to go across town. Yea, I always use leather gloves. Always a helmet. I'm most interested in pants. Frigging leather pants are a pain. Just wondering who is using the riding jeans and such. Hard to have a pleasant shopping experience in full leather attire.
