I've been aproched with a offer and I'm not sure what to do.
Back story is that a while back I listed my. Ike on Craigslist for what I thought was a crazy price...... Just to see what people would offer. Nothing really came of it and I had pretty much forgot about it and continued on my way.
Last night I get a text from a guy proposing this offer.........
He has a stock 2007 Gsxr 600 that has 4000 miles on it and is near mint. He wants to trade strait up for my 04 XB12 R/S with 14,700 miles. He said he rides casually and wants to visit family in AZ ( on a bike), but he can't ride the Gsxr for more than a hour due back issues. He's a former Buell tech and comes from the cruiser scene (supposedly). Anyways.... From just a money standpoint book value on his bike is twice what mines worth. Should I do it ? Worse case is I don't like it and sell it for way more than my Buell would have ever pulled and buy another Buell.

I say go for it. Like you said, if you don't like it you could sell it and buy another Buell or 2.
Raz

/\true the gsxr is technically worth more... maybe u could just turn it and buy another buell with less miles thats newer. I'd be very very cautious though

If its to good to be true...It probably is. But I'm always up for a wheel and deal. Just Be careful you dont get burnt.

I'm very anal when I look at bikes. I've got time as I won't return home for 30 days. My best bro is going to look at me this weekend and I will def give it a thurogh once over before I commit to a trade. I've already been on the net researching the bike and potential issues that may or may not arise later.

Couple of pics.....

Hey Freak thought you didn't like the GSXR ?! [confused]
I still don't see how going to that will help your hand/ wrist issue. [confused][confused]

That's a tough one! I think because this is my first Buell, il have a hard time ever parting it's it, but business is business!

Looks like a clean bike. Would definitley be worth running it to a mechanic to give it a good once over given the unusual circumstances. $100 may be worth avoiding the trouble down the road if it ended up not what it seems.

Good luck freak! [up]

Sucks it doesn't have the mirrors. This was the first year they integrated to lights in the mirrors. Good luck. Nice bike, but im partial to buells[cool]

buells are just more rare, i like being the different bike outside the local starbucks, you pull up on one of those things, just sounds like someone is trimming the grass with a weedwacker.

i do want something more generic and japenese for my full time track bike however, id be looking for a cash bike around $4000 or so.

also just my two cents, it seems like the people on those bikes are just getting younger and younger. probably because when i drive by fraternity row at school there's about ten of them outside every frat house. and when i go to bike nights they're all little teenage kids with the flat bill backwards hats, who seem like they're just riding to try to impress some chick

so long paragraph short, i think youre too old for one chris, stick with what you have [up] haha

Unless you simply don't like the Buell, I wouldn't do it. Gixxers are a dime a dozen. Sure they're nice bikes; very well made and good performers. However, if you wanted one, I'd suggest you simply save up some extra cash and get one as a 2nd bike. It's not like the world is going to run out of used GSXRs. However, finding clean, unmolested, undamaged Buells will become harder and harder as time goes by.

The possibility to turn around and sell it or trade for a newer buell is a good idea to me.

I have the same feeling as GOduc. If I see this bike, or almost any other jap bike out on the the street. I don't give it a second glance, but I guess not everyone has the desire to be as unique as everyone else.

Is there a particular reason this guy wants your bike, assuming he could just as easily sell/trade it for a newer buell as well?

GoDuc, how's the build going?

pretty good dude, got my tax return check in the mail, and just been cleaning on the engine for now. sent the frame swingarm and fairing stay off to powdercoat, i gave him a can of the hd touch up 09 flat black, he said he could match it close enough you wouldn't be able to tell a difference. my painter (who has painted multiple bikes for my family) decided he was going to want to charge 750. thats wack, powdercoat resists rust better and resists scratching better and this guy is charging me 400. i also think while i have the enigne out im going to do some stage 1 porting on my heads through nrhs performance with some redshift cams. i was talking to him on the phone he said its the most bang for the buck before doing new pistons and stuff. said he would charge me 800 for everything. so ill be taking my heads off in the next few days, and cylinders as well, sandblast the fins to get all the dirt and grime off, make everything look new again.

also doing new top end gaskets, of course, and wheel bearings, brake pads, front and rear rotors, hide the rear caliper, i got a race undertail and will be getting rid of the stock taillight, complete rebuild of the front forks with fluid, might possibly go ahead and do the ztl2 front conversion, and my f.a.s.t intake should be ready soon. he said he was making some more of the velocity stacks, i need to call him thhough i haven't talked to him in a few weeks.

other than that man, just pretty much tinkering around with stuff[up]

ill be taking detailed pics of the way back up and parts that im switching, i might even borrow a friends gopro and film it, so people can get an idea of what it entails

Wow dude that's insane! I was thinking as I was reading all that, I hope you take pics and do your own build thread. I'll be definitley following! I'd love to get some parts powder coated on mine as well.

Nrhs is who did my bike. It was done before I bought the bike, but thats who did the work.

When do you expect to have it all done?

Walls..... I just said the last one I looked at was not what the guy said it was. It has nothing to do with my hands at this point........ Just an opurtunity to trade up to a bike that's newer and less miles. I've also had an offer for a 02 CBR 954rr. I'm always very cautious of anything mechanical that's found on Craigslist. The fact that the guy seems pretty straight up and is willing to ride roughly 150 miles one way just for my bro to inspect the bike for me says alot. If it had issues the guy wouldn't want to get more than a few miles of his home I would think. I suppose I should have known that y'all would be more byassed towards the Buell because this is indeed a Buell sight. I'm also getting to the point that I'm looking at track days insted of street duty and I think a jap bike just fits that profile a little better than my Buell. I know everyone thinks things of this nature are too good to be true or a scam waiting to happen, but sometimes a lil faith is needed. Yes there are a few lil parts missing such as mirrors and stock exhaust, but come on........ How many people leave there bikes bone stock. I know I sure as hell didn't.

I understand I may kick myself for getting rid of the Buell.....IF I do, but hey I will never know till I try. If I get tired of the aggressive style I can just jump on my wife's 2010 Raider and take her on a cruise. Things to consider are things such as parts availability, time to get said parts, nature of use, dealer conpancy when it comes time for a dealer visit. I know that the closest HD dealer to me that will even look at a Buell is 100+ miles away........ Suzuki dealer is just 3 miles from my door step.

Gudoc...... How old do you think I am? In your book it seems I should be tricking out a hove-a-round. I'm not giving up on my youth just yet....... There's still alot of miles in these ol tires.
