What's the age of the typical Buell owner?

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

Just turned 30. I bought the Buell(08 Firebolt) less than 4 months ago and have clocked 12,000 miles so far. I hope to own it till I can't find any more parts for it. Also looking to buy an 1125 now, or an 1190 if I win the lotto.

Just got a 2010 Ulysses for my 60th birthday, but my daily driver is my 2005 Road King. First bike was when I was 13, got my first big bike in 1971 ('72 Sportster). Hoping the Uly makes a good trail riding bike; I'll find out on the Barstow to Vegas run later this year.

i bought my Blast when i was just shy of 18. i am now almost 21 and just bought my 2003 XB9. i joined the US Army, but was medically discharged (damn kidney stones). it seems like the Buell riders are generally slightly older men who have grown out of the ricky bobby "i just wanna go fast" phase in life. a Buell is a whole new animal in the motorcycle world. a poor man's ducati if you may.

all my buddies call me an idiot for buying this bike. they all ride or want GSXRs or CBRs and the ONLY important thing to them is going fast. well, you can go plenty fast on an XB9 or 12 and you usually dont really go 160mph everywhere so in reality, the Buell is a better option for the douche street racer scene. i always bring up the argument of "when's the last time you saw one of these?" pointing at my bike next to theirs. their reply? "NEVER, but it doesnt matter because it sounds like a 'gay' harley and isnt as fast as my cousin's-uncle's-aunt's-nephew's-dad's-girlfriend's-brother's 'GIXXER"

i give up...

First things first, there is no such animal "Typical Buell Owner"
That being said I'll be 42 in a couple weeks, and have been riding for 30 yrs, dirt first then both street and dirt..
Since I was enough to buy 1, I've always had at least 1 bike..

Hooker, I wouldn't call a Buell a poor mans Ducati. It's a totally different kind of beast, round corners especially. With a Buell for example it is very easy to close your line, with a Ducati it takes quite a bit of effort.
Also, your buddies need to grow up :D if they are about straight line speed, then maybe they should get a dragster box with four wheels, fun is when you're riding on a twisty road, with a V-twin with lots of torque between your legs ;)
And yes, Buell's are lovely on twisty roads!
Sorry for the off-topic...

I am 21 and bought my Buell XB12S last October...definitely cost me a pretty penny, so I would definitely rule out any poor man owning one of these, let alone a Ducati. BUT it is a whole new species of bike that is hard to compare to, given that it is founded on the ambiguous division between Harleys and Ducatis (other v-twin sportbikes)...all I can truly say is: job well done Erik Buell.

Certainly not a poor mans choise over here, cross the pond and Buells suddenly become exotics, could certainly find Ducatis for much less.

48 here! I just got back into riding last October after almost 20 years - believe it of not! I I started back on an 07 Ninja 250. Went to dealership advertising a Firebolt, not really knowing much about them except they were "Harley sport bikes" with a "gas tank frame". It was gone by the time I got there so I bought a 2012 Ninja 650. I couldn't get the Firebolt out of my mind and ended up getting my 03 just a couple of weeks ago. I did sell the 250 but my 650 and my Bolt are keepers. I wouldn't call it a "mid-life crisis" ... I just like toys!

im 46 xb12 and when my son was 16 he had an xb9 but sold it for a gixxer, ive have never owned anything in the cruiser line and dont plan to. we were heading out on a 200miler last summer when an 18yr old said to me (that thing sure looks uncomfortable) i chuckled and just changed the subject. on a gas stop near the end of ride i noticed he was having difficulty when he got off his bike and my posture was fine.he then said i guess its not bad after all huh.not bad at all i replied, love my buell

29 and just picked up an 09 XB12ss. had a '72 honda cb450 a while in college. Dabbled with the idea of another bike, figured I better pick up one of these machines before they are too hard to find.

'Be 65 this summer, been riding since I was 14. this'll be the first season on a Buell ('05 XB9SX)... kinda reminds me of my '70 Norton Dunstall. Smooth, handles like a dream, but without the English electric (Lucas) and fuel (Amal) hassles. Traded a '86 HotRod sporty and the Buell is sooooo much better!

Im one of them that started around 13 as well with a SP 200 suzuki...then once I got my license I went to sportbikes and am now 36. Never went cruiser route ,maybe someday I will.
