I replaced a bunch of corroded hardware on my bike recently, but the shoulder bolts(bolts that hold the clutch and brake lever on) I couldn't find. I found some that were very close and tried them but they didn't fit. Anyone know where I can find these? I'd really like to get stainless steel, but I guess anything would work, just need to replace the rusty ones I currently have.

Your best bet would be McMaster Carr. They will sell small quantities and have a pretty broad selection in a variety of materials including different grades of stainless steel.

now where would I go to get an obscure part for my buell...oh idk a dealer.

Timeless, I had tried there, and can't remember if they didn't have it or if those are the ones I tried, they weren't quite right though.

thanks for the P/N's Kona! I was hoping to get something SS but if this is the only option then it will work...

they are black zinc coated....stop leaving your bike outside or get a cover. do you live next to the ocean or something? My bike is an 04 with 30k miles and those fasteners arent rusted.

My bike is garaged, never left out. The PO left it out and near the ocean, hence all the corrosion. I like the look of the silver SS fasteners on the black pieces, so that's what I'd prefer to replace it with. But like I said if that's not an option this will work.

damn salt. corrosion is why i like living near the great lakes more than the ocean.

measure them and try msc. they have a good selection of stainless shoulder bolts. stick with 18-8 for the grade and always use anti-seize on stainless fasteners. the clutch is a low profile slotted but if you dont care it wouldn't make a different to have a larger socket head that sticks up farther. similarly the brake side could be a socket head instead of the standard hex head like it is now. the brake pivot bolt is metric i think because its a nissin part and i know the wrench size is a 10mm.

I'll check that out thanks. I may be wrong but I think you have the brake and clutch sides mixed up, my brake side (IIRC) is a low profile slotted and the clutch side is the hex.

I really don't care what head it has, just want it to look clean.

And yeah the salt from the ocean really does a number, but it's not all due to that. The PO simply didn't do any maintenance at all. I'm sure if he would have cleaned it up now and again it would have lasted.

Never hurts to check and see what ASB has. Fastenal would probably have something too.

yea you're right. dislexia? monday? pick your excuse. it even says clutch on the bolt picture i put up above and made in japan. def a metric bolt.

Yeah I had tried fastenal as well, no luck there. I'll find my measurements of the bolts and try the link kona posted, they seem to have a good selection.

Thanks. I'm going to try looking a little more for SS, if it's a dead end again I'll resort to stock...

ASB has them as a set

He wants ss. and I dont know why you would buy them from ASB when you can get them even cheaper at the dealer and not have to pay shipping. Thats why they dont tell you part numbers. They know you can find them cheaper elsewhere and they have outrageous shipping charges. They have a $20 min order anyway.

You can get them from the dealer for now, just sayin'. Sorry to push ASB on anyone but i'll do it every time i have a chance, they are good people. But if you want to support your local dealer i have no problem with that either.

As for the SS hdw, if you find some snursnak, be sure to post 'em up i'll be interested:)
