The battery in my 2005 XB9SX Lightning is getting up there in age and since I do a lot of long distance riding I will be purchasing a new battery this Spring. What are the best options? So far I have narrowed it down to either the Deka/Big Crank for $75 on Amazon shipped, or the new Deltran (Battery Tender) Lithium Iron Phosphate for $99 on Amazon shipped. Are there any better options out there and which would be the best to choose? Thanks!

I have the Deka batteries on my xb9sx and my 1125 does fine on both, bought both through amazon. I have no info on the other battery though.

I have a Big Crank and it is a great battery to. Both are good batteries the choice is yours. Lunatic gets good batteries you mine try getting a hold of him.

^^^^^ thanks much rick....thanks much john. appreciate the very kind words as always.
keith: i'm sold out of the batteries i had in stock. i had ordered in 30 and used 3...sold the balance to board members.
the Deka Big Crank @ $75 delivered via amazon is an excellent deal. i've posted this numerous times before but the OEM Buell and H-D batteries were and continue to be Deka. manufactured right up the road from me...all USA manufacturing and content....badged under a few different names but IMO the finest AGM battery money can buy.

I'm going to try the Battery Tender LI this year

jesse: you should report back with your findings. i as well am curious about them including fitment, quality of terminals and their design, pricing, CCA's. deltran makes quality products so thinking their battery offerings should be the same.

^^^^^^ yes sir, that's it. i posted this a few years ago.....the Deka plant is about an hour northeast of me and is one hell of a gigantic facility. all USA quality, OEM manufacturer for buell/ebr/H-D....top quality and priced right. plant rep showed me cutaways of approx. 12 different cycle batteries and the quality of the Deka was vastly superior. some of the "off-shore" batteries were absolutely horrific in how they were manufactured.

I saw that battery from battery tender on amazon just before Christmas for $99.00 it looked pretty good can't remember the cca though.

Don't buy anything Lithium Ion. The CCA and capacity claims are bogus. The LFP (Lithium Iron Phospate ) chemistry does not perform well in low temperatures. Even below 60 they do not crank well. Leaving the headlight on for 30 minutes can kill a lithium ion battery, Also, when they do go bad you are in for a nasty surprise. They will release flammable gas. (Can you say fireball That is why there is so much concern about shipping them on airplanes.

They are good for racing applications though.

Lead acid is tried and true. It is what Buells were designed to use.

Ya, a co worker once said that we shouldn't keep our cordless impacts and drills out because they have LI batteries. We always left them in the jobox no matter what the conditions outside. Never seemed to bother them.
