Hey Lads, I'm looking for a aftermarket pipe for the 09 XB12Ss that's loud. Is there one that just slips on that has a deep rumbling sound and does the bike need to be retuned?
cheers

Jardine is probably the loudest and cheapest. There are alot of jardine haters but ive never had a problem with mine. Next and best would be to modify your stock muffler.

Loudest and cheapest? Talk to Hawk. I am sure he can whip up something loud for you. Would be much cheaper than a Jardine.

Ya alot of option for getting a modified stock pipe. You can check out american sportbike website they have a shootout between Buell exhausts. The loudest would be the D&D from what I here. I have the Hawk performance exhaust that is very loud and has a nice deep sound and will be the cheapest especially if your gonna do overseas shipping. The 09's do have some learning capabilities in the closed loop but the open (idle, WOT) where it will not get enough fuel causing it to run lean. I have the same bike as you and rode it like that but did not like how it stuttered ad backfired so I purchased a race ecm from eric Buell racig for $250.

Sorry, i forgot you guys are in the states already. Unfortunetly the jardine would be our cheapest option...

It is easy to forget for some of you Buellers, Buell is an IMPORT. Ha!:D
Even with shipping, the Hawk could still be quite affordable. Cop a stock exhaust on e-bay or Buellster parts, ship it directly to Randy and then home after it is done. You get the stock fit with aftermarket performance. And you will piss of the neighbors, and have guys at gas stations looking at you as if there was a naked super model standing beside you.

D&D is the loudest, you can pick up a mint used for about $250. i see one posted on another forum right now for $275. They slip right on and have mounts for the stock fairing too. Tuning isn't a need but as all mods, tuning will provide the best results. Ive been running mine for over 3,000 miles now without an issue.

Of course, one may have to consider how low is too loud to be comfortable riding.
I went shooting without earplugs just once back in 1982. I have to wear earplugs under my full face helmet to reduce the ringing from my Hawk. My guess is there is some resonance in the helmet cavity. But I am not ready to either change my pipe or go to a half helmet to see it the ringing goes away.:D
It just sounds so nice. And guys do look at me like there is a naked supermodel standing next to me at the gas station.:D

Make one like mine!! I bought the pipe on ebay for 15$ and modified it a little to get it to bolt up. It is louder than the D&D:D

If I had $1200 for a decent welder it would be very cool to make my own. I could make a bunch of stuff for my Jeep too.

I'm tempted to find a used welder and make my own as well.

Buying one, I hear mostly bad things about Jardine and D&D. D&D is the loudest, too loud. I know from experience on other bikes at least. Jardine is too loud, AND needs repacking quite often before it gets louder and falls apart.

Most send a stock pipe out for modding. All are about the same loudness, but I think it goes Hawk/Drummer/SpecOps if you had to choose loudest to quietest. You can ask for a quieter Hawk though, I'd recommend that. Drummer/SpecOps/Hawk would be most expensive to cheapest. Spec Ops can retain the exhaust valve, otherwise Drummer is known to have a slight low rpm advantage. Hawk is mid to upper. Spec Ops I think is a happy medium? All are very similar though.

I have a drummer and love it. Sounds awesome and above all maintains a stock appearance which i prefer with all my mods.

If I didn't have to consider cost, I would have gotten the Drummer SS. That is a nice looking, nice sounds exhaust. :D

I agree with all above, just the shipping costs to Australia are ridiculous. even with our dollar on par with you guys at the moment. Which makes jardine which is sold new here a cheap and nasty choice.

@ BadXB I hear ya. My brother send a couple books from Cairns Queensland to North Carolina. $26.

Because of the Buell Blast he think Buell is a "girl's bike." :D[mad]

Hawk is by far the best! Looks great and sounds great, with the dual pipes! Its 195, you gotta pay shipping to you. i would buy one online have it sent to him, then have him ship it to you when its done, cuts your shipping in half. Then post your pipe for sale for the same price you bought the new one for.

***Buellsterparts.com will actually do this for you, the pipe costs $150, $195 to Hawk it, so thats $345+shipping......something to noodle on.
