Which of these bikes?

I have decided I wanted to get into this whole Buell thing and a firebolt is what I want. I just am not sure which I want the 9 or 12. These are fairly close to where I live, do either of them sound like a good deal?

Also the 03 has fresh new tires less than 200 miles. He just rode it to the dragons tail a few days ago.

I assume between the 9 and 12, there isn't a HUGE difference. Just a little more torque?

The '09 xb12 is 6 years newer, only ~1k miles more, and only $300 more. I'd go with that one. AND, it's priced well. The '03 xb9 might be priced a little high... depending on the actual condition. But it's not unreasonable.

Nothing "wrong" with the earlier ones, but the buells just kept getting better. They fixed/improved minor things as they progressed.

Generally, the 9s rev higher... but they raised the redline on the newest generation... so it's not that big a deal when comparing an older 9 to a newer 12. The 12 has more torque, the 9 is smoother. Neither is a slouch, and everyone has a different opinion on the 9 vs 12 deal.

The 09 [up]

Ztl2 brake system, updated oil pump setup, stronger crankshaft, strong transmission assembly, a better fuel injection system, more horsepower and torque, better bigger suspension, the slightly increased rev limit closes the only advantage the 9 had.

The price difference and miles, makes the 09 a better choice still IMO

i would go for 2009 Buell XB12R Firebolt with 4500$ is not expensive.If it's body is in good condition and not repaired before.

As an owner from Kentucky, and a avid Hawaiian twisty finder, go for the 12, you'll be overjoyed at the torque. I am from Covington, not that I like to claim it. Grew up mostly in Campbell county.

As the others have said, I would definitely go with the '09 12.

If it helps, I just asked my 4 year old which one he liked. He instantly said no to the '03 and got really excited about the '09. I thought it wouldn't hurt to have a second opinion.

I would say go with the 09 the black forks made a huge diff in handling. But seriously go with the 09 its got all the bells and whistles new FI system, better belt, race oil drive, etc. Plus the forks are newer and if they didn't maintain the 03 forks your looking at a rebuild.
