White goop in primary casing

I took the cover to adjust the clutch off and found a weird white goop all over the inside of the cover (pretty similar looking to male you-know-what). Anyone else ever encounter this or know what it could be? The only thing I've done recently is change the clutch cable and change the oil in the primary.

I have an '03 xb9r if that makes any difference.
 
Sometimes rain/water will run down the clutch cable, there is a boot around it sometimes that boot will rip or tear. I reccomend change oil. Run it for about 50 miles and then change it again.
 
drain oil
Flush with brake cleaner
refill
zip tie clutch adjustment boot when finished

This, except I have a small hose clamp around the rubber boot, so I dont have to cut off a zip tie and more than likely ruin the rubber boot if I need it off.
 
Sorry if this is a newbie question, how would I flush with brake cleaner? Just run some through the case by filling it from the top and letting it drain out the bottom?

Check/repair/seal boot, change oil, short run, change oil. Should be good.
 
Thanks for all the responses guys. Last question, I actually just found the problem whilst adjusting my clutch cable at my girlfriends 50 miles from my home. Would I be okay to ride 50 miles back home to work on it in my own garage?
 
there's always a risk involved when you don't have it in optimal running condition, but I think you'd be okay.
 
Yeah there is no telling how long it has been like that unless you have looked at it within the past month or so. I don't see a problem riding it back just take it easy and don't think about it. The more you think about it the more your gonna worry.

I also think its unnecessary, but brake clean will cut through all the crud and make it run out the bottom. the problem i see is that you cant get to every surface with a spray can. If you did a disassembly it is a good idea, but with no disassembly it is not worth it.
A better idea is a seafoam treatment, but i also think this is unnecessary unless the actual oil looks like milk, just the crud on the inside of the cover, wipe it off and change the oil
 
The crud was just inside the cover, some oil did drip out when I opened it up. I washed the bike a few days ago and it hasn't been in the rain since it's last oil change, so I'm assuming it must've happen as I was cleaning it. Thanks for all the responses, I'll drain it and do about oil change after I clean it out :D:D
 
Mine was the same, torn clutch boot, water in the primary. Pulled the cover, cleaned it all out, new oil for 100 miles or so, repeat. GTG
 
I wouldn't/ didn't run any cleaner when this happened to me. I just (like above) drained, filled, rode like 10 miles. Drained and filled again. It happened to me like 3-4 years ago and hasn't happened since...

PS. I ride in the rain all the time. Fluke??
