Who has the Highest Miles on their Buell?????

what most people dont take into account, in my opinion, is that harley davidson's technology has allowed their engines to go for WELL over 100,000 miles. my mom has a vrod and it has 50,000 and my dad has a cruiser and it has a lot of miles also. its the same pistons and technology and everything else in the buell engines, i rolled over 13000 just the other day, and will be doing a thorough 10000 mile service on my own. THEN waaaaaay later down the road if i do run into problems ill just do a rebuild, have the block remachined and new internals and be good to go for another round.....believe me, these engines last a long time, its a fact

Your statement isn’t necessarily wrong but I think it might be “off” a little.
One thing for you to keep in mind; A Harley’s longevity is more a result of the fact that their enormously under stressed more than anything else. A Briggs and Stratton will run for 40 years even with poor maintenance (I have such a creature in my shed right now) I would hardly attribute its longevity to its valve in block, oil pump-less “technology” but more to the fact that for its displacement, it makes very little power
A typical Harley makes about 50hp per liter of displacement (.8hp per cubic inch) from the factory. Even modified ones don’t get much past 60hp/liter. Consider that a modern 600 and 1000cc sportbikes make right around 200hp per liter (3.3hp per cubic inch), 2 stroke dirtbikes can approach 300hp/liter (they sure as heck won’t go 100k mi though)! Harleys last for 100k mi + because they don’t make enough power to hurt themselves. Look at it this way, if a new 103” Harley made the same power per displacement as a liter sportbike it would be cranking out about 340hp. How long do you think it would last at those power levels?
You’re Mom’s VRod is certainly the exception to this as its longevity is absolutely a result of a modern design and technology. Even still, the VRod is making about 100hp/Liter so for its design it also is also somewhat under stressed. The VRod shares absolutely no commonality with any air cooled Harley or Buell though so you really cannot compare the 2.

Unfortunately with any air cooled engine (not just Harleys), the more power you make the fewer miles you’re going to get from it for a given displacement. I would be surprised to see a Buell make it past 100k because of the power level their at with an air cooled engine. However, they are so cheap and easy to rebuild 100k is plenty long enough as less than $1000 can get you everything you need to go another 100k. [up]

I have 1,200 on my red 09 1125r red someone can have for 7k its red and perfect wheaton il

19k on my chassis. Mine was bought blown up because of some idiot kid, got it for cheap though. Swapped in a 4k miles motor and put about 2k more miles on it since.

I'm going to ride it hard and treat it well, but when it blows it blows - and ill just rebuilt it bigger and better.

Bought mine in Aug and have been riding through the winter. I've put 10000 miles on since Aug and now the Buell has about 19000 on her. Should add up quick now that riding season is here since I ride her even more when the weather is nice.

I only get like a good 7 months of riding season here in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan. I put around 6XXX on my old XB12r before that car slammed into me, and ended the life of the ole' XB but I now have an 09 1125r with around 3800 hopefully gonna last quite awhile, already replaced the VR with a new Mosfet one, and replaced the stock and bought a new K&N filter. have a new set of Pirellis just have to have them put on. Just praying for no future Stator problems :D

just hit 9,852 on the od on my 05 12scg. i bought it in 2010 with 4k on it, so not for the first year of riding. this year my goal is 7k

03 xb9 22k miles, bought it with 19+
Ive had the belt snap, clutch cable snap, I'm changing the bearings this weekend, and had a jardine can rattle apart. I think I'm the first owner to take care of this bike, haha.
Ride it every sunny day we get in NC

Phxbueller,
That is some impressive mileage if your motor is untouched internally. Fill us in on the details. Have you had any serious mechanical failures?
Thanks,Lesley

The bike had 60xxx on it when I got it, I got it from a military guy from georgia who drive it here to phx. He said it is a rebuilt motor at 50xxx, but not 100 sure because he didn't do the rebuild. Bike was is ruff shape when I got it. But the price was good so I picked it up and put some love into it and I have had no complaints. I have always wanted a buell and when this one came up I couldn't pass it up.

^^^ Thanks for the reply. Sounds as if you got yourself a really nice bike. Safe Journeys [up]

BTW, I have 12K miles (all from me) on my 08Scg. I've never had any probelms with it and ride pretty hard. Just make sure you keep good oil in it and you should get a lot of life out of these motors. Always perform your own maintenance, F-bomb the dealer.

09 Picked it up late in 2010, 21500 HARD miles.

No sugar bike here!!!
SPEED,Snow,Mud,Rivers,(dont like black ice) im thinking of Rubicon next,
