in the members pictures area there is a black lightning on page 2, whos bike is this? I am due to replace my tire here before winter an I was wondering what size tire that is, it seem realy wide compared to stock and I love the look, I know its a metezler tire but what size and how does it change the ride of your bike? -thanks

its not my bike!but it looks to be maybe 190.i know several riders that are happy with the dunlop sportmax!just gotta make sure you dont get the touring model tire a 190 looks cool but i beleive you lose alot of handling in corners.i have had a 180 and 190 and the one eighty seems alot funner the 190 is kinda like ride in a boat but idf its winter it might not be bad to go with the 190 if your not in the corners hard.

can you put a 240 on a stock rim in a stock swingarm? thats what it looks like he did. is the chain conversion needed to add space or did you just do it for other reasons?

No way a 240 will fit on a stock swing arm. Pretty sure its an aftermarket one. There is a company that makes a setup for the Buell but I cant remember the site...I do remember that it's pretty spendy.

you gotta widen the back rim (is gotta be minimum 6", this is what cost a lot of money!) to fit the tire, then you gotta buy a front pulley that work in a forwarded position that the original, otherwise the belt is gonna touch the tyre, and that's all!
is a bad ass looking but not so nice to ride, really difficult to curve with, so you lose the best quality of the Xb, the handbility!!!!!!
there's Free Spirits that does the adjustment, but we are in the order of $3000!!!!! :D:D:D

Mrdozer2you,

A 240 does fit in a stock swingarm.Ron's swingarm is stock.

madbuell,

The wheel has to widened to 8.5 inches and its about a grand. As far as the front pulley there is two setup's. One is with the belt and it requires a off-set wheel and shimming front anf rear pulleys, belt tensioner, etc. The second being for chain. You'll need a wheel that is not off-set and it can be from 8-9 inches. You will need a the correct chain conversion also. Said and done your gonna have about 2500-3000 grand to do it complete. I'm in the process of doing it over winter and hoping to have it done for Spring. Its not cheap. BTW You won't lose your ride. It slows the handling down some but it doesn't handle bad. I've talked to 5 people personally that have them and they all say it doesn't handle all that bad.

OOp's for the belt 240 kit the front pulley is Off-set pully also. The rear is spaced.

BTW madbuell I like your bike. Mine is quite custom as well. From paint to you name it.

thanks BadS1!

bikes are never really done, there's always something new to do, and every time you say:"this time is the last one i spend money on her!", but you know is not like this!!!!!!!!!!!![smirk]

The one that I saw was on trojan-horse.com I believe. They sell a new swingarm/kit complete for about $3000 euro....whats that like $5500 USD or so? Your way sounds loads easier, may take a bit longer to piece it all together yourself (for those not mechanically inclined) but worth the savings. I had no idea that you could re work the stock rim to accept a larger tire. Does doing that change the height of the wheel?

the Trojan Horse website is an english one, so they sell in pound, wich is double the value of the dollar, so 3000 pound is equal to $6000!!!!!!

I started out asking alot of questions to Jens at Hillbillymotors about his Hellbender. He gave me some info. Ron used to sell his kit like the one on his bike. But some machine department issues have arised so he no longer sell's it.
