Why did you buy your Buell?

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

one of main reason I bought a Buell was because it is an AMERICAN bike ,with a V-twin harley engine(& harley/HOTROD/MUSCLE CAR sound), and all the very unquie looks and very unquie innovations from BUELL. I dont want something that everyone else has.

but here is the better explaination of why I love & own my buell!
When & where I first saw my first BUELL !

well mine of all places was at an airshow in 97 or 98. when the annoucer said after this mig fly by there was a race between a plane (super fast acrobatic plane) and a motorcycle, but not any bike an american bike powered by a harley davidson. when the bike went out to the runway (which was at least 300yards away ) you could hear the bikes engine roaring like some muscle car , so i watched and the bike took off down the runway , when about half way down the plane caught up and it was head to head the rest of the way with the plane just above him and to his left , all until the BUELL had to slow down because he was running out of runway. the plane pulled straight up flying to about 3000 ft and did some acrobatics. the buell cruised down in front of the crowd rolling down the taxi way and over to his display with the other buells. so had to go see this awesome bike. I talked to the guys there, n they told me the whole buell story. i looked the bike and the other buells thunderbolts n lightnings, cyclones. I fell in love with how the sounded and looked like nothing else i ever seen before or since, n how you could see everthing on the bike nothing was hidden , like a work of art showing off all its details. i thought how nice n cool it would be have one of those bikes. then a year or 2 later the X1 lightning came out, and made my mind up then that one day when could afford it i would own a buell. well have a Buell now, not a X1 (yet) but a XB12R Buell . funny thing is i cant remember which kinda of buell the race bike was, dont think i asked them that, i was to awe struck, from these buells.

Your-first-Buell-sighting might explain some others reason too!

extreme nice tuber above. an X1 is on my list next then 1125 when i can afford it of course.

American muscle........ but not, because mine corners :D

I have always liked naked bikes but wanted a V twin because torque is addicting.

not a whole lot of V twin naked bikes out there
KTM
Ducati
Buell

that's about it for the reasonable priced/semi modern ones

but I was also considering a "supermoto"
I use quotes because it was either the KTM SMC or the ducati hypermotard and neither are all out SUMO bikes

I was considering a full faring bike (two actually) either an RC51 or an interceptor, I would love to say Aprilia but there were no dealers in my area at the time to support the bike, the only one had gone out of business.
the last 2 bikes I was considering were the old V-Rod (with the 180 rear) and a triumph street triple R

I test rode a few bikes and the V-Rod cornered like crap even with the 180 tire and mid mounted controls.
the triumph whistled like it had a turbo and didn't have the low end grunt I wanted.
I was convinced to ride a monster but the styling wasn't for me

the hypermotard was like a telepathic link formed between between me and the bike sticking me to the road, tons of fun. but the bike was a demo with full exhaust and other goodies and it scared the crap out of my woman (we had just watched yes man) so she vetoed it.
damn it sounded good

I never found an RC51

the interceptor I found was a decent ride but I couldn't tell how it rode because the front tire was cupped to ****, it was at the local bmw dealer and right after they put a new set of tires on it somebody bought it. no biggie I think it was in a wreck.

never found a used SMC

giving up hope I posted a want add for an older lightning low my want add
in only a few days I had tons of guys trying to sell me a bike but I swear this one was fated for me.
when I consider something I look into aftermarket goodies before I buy it, and this one had nearly everything aftermarket I was planing on buying but most of it was one step up.
for example I was planing on plastic sliders he had aluminum I was going to get the fiberglass asb right side scoop he had already done carbon fiber for all the scoops ect. It only took 3 days to find my bike
9 days after I posted the add up I had a buell delivered to my doorstep.
Sarah decided to help out with buying the bike so it became my fathers day present (eat your heart out guys [smirk])
I took it out for 200 miles that next sat and couldnt whipe that stupid grin off my face, good thing I was wearing a full face helmet otherwise people would have thought I was on drugs! at every red light people were asking what I was riding and gawking at it.
I set the suspension up over a weekend and went to go flog it a bit, after taking an entrance ramp WAY over the speed limit and setting the tire down after the ramp ended I was hooked.
it only took me a few days to realize I made the right decision on the buell.
every night for a few months I would go out for a nightly ride to unwind and grin like and idiot.

still do sometimes :D

every spring I start it up and once again I feel like an elated little kid riding for the first time, Damn I love Betty Nugs (my bike or as Sarah says "the other woman")

and these reasons too,
from another thread
each to there own opinion, I think there is no true one reason we love buells , but combo of many diferent reasons , different to everyone. and as I have said before , there are many reasons I love my BUELL and why I bought it (my first bike), always loved them since the first day i saw and HEARD them the first buell i seen was a tuber thunderbolt and cyclone . so different, so unquie, such a work of art, and innovation, and the sounds was better than any harley or any other bike i have ever heard ( still trying to get my XB to that sound). I knew then i wanted one over any bike . it was the combo of all it had( air cooled VTwin, clean sleek, yet crazy looking, naked so you can see engine and all and more)somewhat rare, and ESPECIALLY what it did not have ,(like no liquid cooled or 4cyl, no fairing, etc. or fake racing number on the side)
i also have to say that it being American made , (meaning to me is being american workers built , and american owned company(at least it was before harley took control.when erik owned the largest majority of company).we all know parts come from all over for any & all vehicle manufacture.)being american is probably what sealed the deal ,an american sportbike , i always loved bikes and sportbikes but never seen any imports that I wanted because of the looks & sound & I'd rather help employ a fellow american than some other country... I do have to say now there is maybe a few inovative import (european)sportbikes i think i would buy if i had money to burn ,but would rather have more BUELLS, X1,Uly,XB12Scg, 1125R,or build custom old chopper or bobber. but those imports look very unique, and maybe have drawn there Inspiration from such unique inovative bikes like BUELL. but I really doubt i would like how they would sound or handle.or at least would take some getting use to. Buell bikes gave me that awe struck to my first seeing a buell and I love having people being awe struck at my Buell & there jaw drops even further when I say "It's AMERICAN MADE",(everyone LOVES that) and a V-twin(buell improved harley engine) engine in it.( like konarider (in another thread)said it would not be a BUELL with japanese( or any import sounding like 4cyl high pitch exhaust noise)engine in it.) Also I think its Buells' innovations that make a Buell a BUELL, and I would of loved to see the end product or concept of Buells' dirtbike, that would of set the dirtbikes world all upside down .

Honestly, The REAL reason I got my buell was because it was the only bike I was able to get with no payments for six months. Actually, there was a red CR next to it I could of gotten, but I thought the "pods" on the CR were kinda gay. Besides, sumtn with my bike jumped out and bit me ya know
Cant say I didnt wish I woulda sprung the extra money and got an R1, but if I had a bike that went 186, I wud either be 6 feet under, or not have a license for a very very long time.....

I wanted an American bike, my dad is die hard Harley, and I wasn't ready for that yet. I wanted a sport bike so the firebolt was it for me. Oh and did I mention it sounds pretty good too?

Not going over 130/140 appeals to me. I have no reason to go 200 mph and if my bike can do it, I will try it!

American , Unique naked look , Low and mid range power and a low seat height . I ride a 2009 Xb12Scg , does all I want from a bike and fits me perfect .

well were do I start... My buell adiction started at a rather young age. My dad has been into harleys since i was just barley out of dipers but he was always trying to make them go fast then one day we was at some local motorcycle shop here in Lake Charles and i seen this black motorcycle that was a sport bike with a harley engine in it that said buell on the tank (it was rs 1200 with the folding passenger seat) Then in 96 my dad brought home this sexy machine called an s1 (he had one of the first 50 s1s out) so that fueled the fire. Over the years i learned more and more about buell then in 04 I got my first one which was an 03 xb9r but I only had it for a few months then I had to deploy and my ex wife sold it. then after about 3 years or so and a few jap bikes I found a m2 and bought it then i got my xb9r about a year ago.

but aside from that this is why I like buell:
american
reminds me of a muscle car but on 2 wheels
I hate crusier bikes
love the way they look
I think Erik Buell is a genius
and I think they are sexy
they are different then every thing else
buells speak to me.

The sound is what got me hooked years ago and they just continued to grow on me. I decided to go look at them and saw the sticker hanging on the handlebars that said these were the last of the Buells since Buell closed down. I went to my bank the next day and got my loan.

Had tested them on demo days like 8 times, just waited till I paid off the sporty 1st.
Just so happened during the fire sale.
American made, simple motor, more and more fun everyday!

Besides the lack of aftermarket is there a reason not to buy one, but as we see here aftermarket is waking up.

Because everyone else had or has gsxr, ninjas, and such. Plus I got an awesome deal on both of mine. Plus I'm a fan of the naked streetfighter look

long (sad) story, but the short of it is i wanted a bike with touring capabilities so my wife and myself could get away if we want to and also if i get invited by my GS buddies, at least i know i can do a bit of gravel riding as well.

I always wanted to sit on a buell , I was driving rockets for so many years and it so happens I went to the dealer just for fun and then just rolled mine out the day before on the floor for sale , I seen it , sat on it and it was instant love from the start, I test drove it and it sealed the deal I couldnt imagine not walking out the store with out it , it was much more comfortable, plus she (my bike) vibrated me in all the right places :) :) and from there on I knew we were a match

My uncle died (closest thing I had to a father) and I realized life was too short. It was time to stop thinking about riding and start riding. I didn't even want a sports bike. I was thinking cruiser with low miles and a low price and I saw an ad for a bike ("Harley Davidson Buell XB12R") that could get me on the road right away. I thought "Buell", What model was that? I know Softails, sportsters, vrods... What the hell is a Buell?" I clicked the ad and saw the pics and thought wow. "It's like a Jap bike without all the plastic and sh*t I hate... and it has a V-twin".

I asked a friend who was into bikes (rides a gixxer) and he said... It's an angry bike, it was made to fit you perfectly. I went to the bike and the guy started it up and all three of us jumped back from the growl and I was in love. You could said my bike found and chose me... or maybe it was fate.

I've since grown an appreciation for all types of bikes and riders (except the stupid ones that give us all a bad name) but will never see another bike like I see my Buell.

First it was convenience because of bike location. I wanted to buy a local bike I could look at and test ride. Secondly the dealer offered me $4k trade in on my car(1991 300zx) and last but not least the dealer told me on test ride day "take it home and show the wife" needless to say once I heard the exhaust note I was sold.
As much as I hate to admit this I had gotten out of motorcycles like 20 years ago and had no idea what a Buell was until I hit the google search. LOL
