will changing the gauge panel change my o/d mileage?

i want to pick up a used gauge panel for my 05 xb12r so i can have a custom background and save my stock panel. will it change the milage on the bike or is that in the bikes computer? also does it have to be the same year and size bike?

as far as i know the mileage is stored in the gauge cluster so by using a new one it will be whatever the other bike had before it came off. as far as years and models, i think they are all interchangeable. i say just get the custom background, swap it out and keep the original. it is a very simple swap and you can always switch it back.
