Hey guys what do you think about buying a wrecked bike and repairing it. I am wanting to get a firebolt and would love a project.. I have my eye on one that doesn't look to be in such bad shape. Are parts very hard to find for these bikes?

03 Firebolt

A 2003 for over $3,000 that has damage?

I picked up my 2005 with low miles for $2,500.00. It wasn't immaculately clean, but it was a good bike, some dings here and there, mostly just not washed and cared for, but not wrecked or anything.

I'd pass unless it was more like $1,000.00. It also appears to have frame(fuel tank) damage.

Oh didn't realize it was an auction type deal. I saw the "actual" value at the top of the page and thought that was the price.

If it's under $1,000 I'd pick it up. It's worth that just to part out.

There are alot of member here that rebuild their wrecked bikes or buy one such as you. I would try and find a bike in person (to personally inspect) the frame to see if it is in good condition, dents are ok but check for fractures as these frames are aluminum. The good thing about parts being in supply are because there is wide variety of years that have compatible parts especially costmetics. Although there have been some engine changes through the years such as bigger crank pin and rerouting the oil ports and addition of a second o2 sensor many parts are still compatible. You can get parts through; this site from other members, ebay, american sportbike.net, buellsterparts, lshd1 (harlely dealer) and a huge list of others should be a stickey on this site. As for actually purchasing or getting warranty parts through Harley ( local dealers) haa proven difficult timely or non existant. So all in all get a good frame first then hang around here for good deal parts. Good luck

Factory race pipe and factory select seat. I'd probably give as much as $1500 for it. Damage doesn't look that bad to me.

I bought both of the current Buells wrecked and rebuilt them

Thanks for the info guys. I am going to try to get it cheap.. I am in Indiana so it is fairly close but really do not want to make an extra trip down there just to inspect it. Say I pick it up for $1,100 is it likely I could put less than a $1,000 into it to have it up and running? I know there are many variables but for you guys that built your bikes how much did you put into them and how was the damage compared to this one?

Thanks guys!

Looks like it will need at least a new frame. That wouldn't scare me away however if the price is right. Mine was dropped and had a blown motor, and i've rebuilt it back to like new condition. It was totally worth it in my opinion, and mine needed a new motor. The frame on mine was just scratched not completely ****** like that one, so it didnt need a new frame. Threw some pucks on it and it looks awesome.

I've seen frames as low as a few hundred dollars. Check out buellsterparts they have many parts and it will give you an idea of prices.

frame on my 12 looked worse than that when I bought it. Paid $1800 for it. I beat the back of the frame horn forward with a hammer, then filled it with Devcon and sanded smooth.

I am seeing some frames on ebay for like $200 and gas tank for around the same. If that is all it need it would be awesome but I am skeptical. I also found an awesome flawless firebolt for $3500. Trying to jump on that but I would have to have it shipped.

^Not sure if you know this but the frame is the fuel tank. Not sure if you knew that from your last post.

I'm repairing my original right now and I bought one from a member here that I'm fixing up also, the parts are out there and they are incredibly easy to work on.

the frame holds the fuel pump and all of the gas. the swing arm holds the oil
your four big pieces are going to be the engine, frame, swing arm, and forks, I'm considering the forks one piece

frame/ gas tank

Okay gotcha.. By the pics does it look like this is all I will need. What other parts will I potentially need with it being a side hit as stated.

Thanks again!

if you're talking about the bike in that first link I only really see a dent and a broken windscreen with scuffed plastics. that bike is probably rideable unless there is an engine problem internally.
may need some work with the throttle cables, tube and grips also. with that timing cover I almost question if it's had an engine upgrade.

So really just need windscreen, minor body work and to check the engine? Maybe a full tune up as well..

Possibly, Its a gamble w.o seeing or knowing if its running before, but If it does fire up and run, then you'd probably be fine with what you just stated.
