As the title states, i'm looking to pick up a set of black bars for my xb12s. Let me know what you got please.

Part number is EN 0002.1AD from the 2005 parts book for an XB12 SCG I suspect you can buy them new still, or opt for a different bar such as flattracker bar, or some others, I need one for mine,, I have access to some of the British bike parts outlets and EMGO has a good bar (Chrome though, Not black) for cheap thats very similar style,
Popular with the Norton and Triumph guys. I thnk retail on them is around $35 or so.. (I still have my dealer accounts for British bikes, )

there are other styles as well for the XBs. I just had that part number handy on a parts list for my rebuild project. if you need other part numbers,, i have the factory parts manuals

I'd recommend a black Renthal bar or the like. Better riding position IMO and probably less expensive.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Might go ahead and look into the renthal bars 50. IA, I'll look into that part number and see how much I'm looking at. If its anywhere near crossroads, probably just go that route.

i dont know where you ran that price but that seems rather high to me.... seeing as its a 7/8ths bar, theres LOADS of opportunity out there, On the british bikes, many are a narrow buckhorn bar, whats very popular is what we call the "Euro bar" or some call them a "Flat track bar" which basically means its wide, low rise and minimal pullback,
lots of leverage and attractive stance,, but perhaps you want more of a motocross bar with a cross brace? or perhaps a little more buck horn-ish?? Tucker Rocky, Renthal, Parts unlimited, J&P, Hmmm, my file cabinet is boxed in so i cant see all my catalogs, but theres a big one that has a Atv, Harley, metric cruiser, and sport bike catalogs,, once for every flavor, same company, brain fart,,, cant think of it. But 24/7 ordering phone or internet, 365 a year.

no lack of options.

Maybe,,,, just maybe you need to a trendsetter, put some ape hangers on there,,, please post pix when you do.

It would be interesting to see. take it to local bikes nights and cruise ins to gauge reactions. Perhaps this should be a mod for young Buckwildass as well.:)

I can only access Chrome bars,, I think i still have a set or 2 of those emgos hanging in the shop,, I could take a picture if you like. I dont have a commercial account with any suppliers other than British bike parts for vintage.

I use to commercially restore Triumphs, BSAs and Nortons,, a few vintage Asian bikes (mostly CB Hondas) and in my distant past,,,,,,,, vintage Harleys. I dont do it for a living anymore, I have a day job (well swings) and just dabble in it enough to support my hobby. Now that i dont depend on it for a living,,,I work on what i enjoy as opposed ot what pays the bills. I have parts manuals for pretty much any BSA.Norton, or Triumph from the 1930s to 1983.
I can get Clubmans cafe bars, clip ons (mostly 32-34 and 35 mm tubes) flat track bars and any stock bar for the above mentioned. 1965 Norton Atlas? 1952 Triumph thunderbird? 1972 Norton Commado? for the Commando in 1973 there was 12 possible handlebars depending on if it was a 750cc or 850cc and what model, (Roadster, Interstate, fastback, interpol, hi rider, etc etc)

I can even get Norton chopper bars,,, check them out,, Norton tried to cash in on the chopper scene in the 1970s and came out with the most goofy looking chopper in history,, called the Norton Hi rider, had apehangers, big banana seat, and a skinny peanut tank. I had 2 of them, took one to the Norton International rally some years back, freaked out everyone,,

See how I made this about Nortons? :p:p

Here is a period Photo of Advertising in the 1970s, they had a whole series of ads back in the day, called the Norton Girl series, they were Iconic, I have most of them in a collection,,,, this is one of them with the period Norton factory chopper, Crazy eh? Dig those ape hangers! :D I can still get those, havent tried, but I did get a dealer bulletin a while back someones making them again.

Heres a Mid 70s Commando, this is owned by former Cycle World editor David Edwards, It has gone thru several variations over the years, It was built by former Vintage Rebuilders and Norton America President Kenny Dreer, Kenny lives down the street from me a few miles. This shows what we typically low "Euro bars"... Not the flat track style, but notice the low rise, little pullback and slightly wider than stock (you can always shorten a bar, little harder to go back)

;):)[smirk]:p This picture shows what the Norton America Bikes looked like,,, A company ran here in Oregon called initially Vintage rebuilders started by 3 guys I know well, then it became Norton America, Then, it got sold out from under Kenny by his venture capitalist, Olly,,, Now it back in England run by a prat named Stuart,,, "Stewieeeee!!!" I own the only 2 Norton America Prototypes in existence today.
This ladds and lasses is whats called "Norton Style" what do you think? :p

BTW,,, ladds and lasses,,, if you can take your eyes of the Norton Lass for a moment,,,take a good long look at those forks,, you will never see those anywhere, those were special prototypes sent over from Japan, there was 3 made i believe. Ill be rebuilding that bike this winter, it was flogged as a test mule, then sat in a warehouse in Portland for the last 10 years,, I shall return it to its former glory.
There is also a Buell and Harley connection to the Norton, or vice versa if you will. More soon on that.[cool]
