WTF My dad gets feet run over by car and is getting charged...........Rant

So like a month ago... my parents bought a used car to replace the old one. They were out for a ride with 2 of my sisters and had to get some gas so they stopped at Sheetz. Since its a new car, they did't remember which side the gas cap was on.. They ended up pulling up on the wrong side and had to turn around. My mom was driving and my dad was already outside ready to pump so he just waited till she turned the car around. As he is waiting there, a little jeep pulled behind my dad and beeped. My dad turned around and looked for a second.. then looked back at my mom and waved her to come to the pump. As he is waiving.. the dude hits my dad from behind with the car and runs over his foot.. and STOPS on his foot. My dad stands up on his other foot while the other is still trapped and starts banging on the hood of the jeep yelling that he is on his foot and to back off. The dude goes FORWARD and runs over his other foot.... My dad falls on the ground and smashes his back off of the curb thing around the pump.. Understandably, my dad is freaking pissed.. so he goes over and starts yelling at the guy and telling him to get out of the car.. my sisters run over and hold my dad back from beating up the guy.

They call the cops and give their statements and then go talk to Sheetz people to get the surveillance cam video.

The cops called my mom this morning and said that they can't see my dad getting hit or his foot getting run over, only him beating on the hood. so they are charging him for beating on the hood of the car and the other guy is getting nothing!! I don't know what they are charging him with... but this is ridiculous!!

My dad went to the hospital right after it happened and has the report and it says that his foot was severely bruised and stuff. and we have pictures showing his foot swelled up twice the size of the other one.. The cops have all of this and still are charging him...

Going to have to get a lawyer now and fight this. I can't believe how things can get so backwards.. I'm just so mad right now! /rant

Justice system at its finest! You have enough evidence to win, but unfortunately it's idiots in charge that make what should be obvious who's at fault here a big pain in the ass for your dad.

Nuts. A medical statement and a phone call to the DA will get any citation dismissed. Not to worry. What he does if he finds the guy in the Jeep laer is another matter. [smirk]

I'd say sue whoever is charging him, if you're getting a lawyer anyway might as well go for it. It's a winnable case if the police are ignoring the evidence of his injuries

Yea, he was intending to sue him anyways, we were just waiting on the video.. not the news he wanted to hear about it though.. You cant purposely hit a pedestrian from behind and get away with it. Ugh. The cop that is working on this case is part-time and has not been very helpful and is really slow in giving us info about it.

That really sucks! I hope that all works out for you. At least by the time you guys get to the medical reports you'll already be knee deep into the whole situation and maybe it'll be easier to get back to suing him.

A good chunk of society really shouldn't be allowed to drive automobiles.

The way I see it is that guy hit your pops with a vehicle, plain and simple. And I believe your attorney will see it that way also. Sue him! Get mad and get even. Just because the camera did'nt see it does'nt mean it did'nt happen. GOOD LUCK
