99 x1 had a new ignition put on it last summer. Before I had the ignition put in I didn't
Need to pull the clutch in to start. After the new one was installed I noticed I had to pull the clutch in to start (no biggie) road the bike all
Summer and now when I release the clutch in neutral or in gear it kills itself. My first thought was the kick stand switch. Kinda looked at it followed the wires as far as I could couldn't see and corrosion or damage. Completely lost here only have a few weeks of riding left in Alaska need to get back on the road. Any help guys thanks!!!

the wires and switch may look good but can indeed be damaged. you going to have to jump the switch, to see if its the problem.

I dont know if its a normally open, or normally closed switch. find the first connector and continuity check it with a muli meter.

How would I do that... I'm some what mechanically inclined but electricity I know little thanks

its like a light switch, imagine it basically like that switch in the Frankenstein movie. when the side stand it up it presses the switch. either making a loop, or breaking a loop. this tells the bike weather the side stand is up or down

have you ever seen the dome light switch on the door jam of older cars, its the same principle, two wire contacts, spring, and a strike plate attached to a plunger.... what im not sure of is if you need to jump them or leave em open...

if you or a buddy had a multi meter, you can probe the switch and then press the button and see if its working.
