Has anyone modified their bike with a manual fan over-ride switch that will allow you to turn the fan on for low speed traffic situations? I'd like to try something like this on my bike for hot weather, low speed traffic but do not want to mess up the automatic fan run controlled by the ecm. Just looking for some ideas and guidance if this is even possible.

yea this would be possible just put another circuit with a toggle on the fan in parallel with the one thats already there. even if they were both on it would still be 12V and either one would be able to turn on the fan without the other.

You could just use ecmspy and modify your fan cut on temperatures so that it comes on at lower temperatures. This way there is nothing for you to remember to turn on or off.

Thanks konarider94,

I'm not an electrical person, so I cornered one of our electrical engineers at work and he verified that this will work. I will be rigging a switch up soon!

Make up a circuit that has a relay in it and use a keyed 12v source to activate it...then put your toggle switch between the relay and keyed source. This way even if you forget to turn off the toggle the power will be cut off when the key is turned off.

its hard to forget if you shut the bike off the thing sounds like a leaf blower.

no problem, and btw I am a mechanical engineer but i understand wanting to verify with someone you trust

If his bike has the older emc flash the ECM will run the fan for a couple of mins after shut down......this would make it easy to forget. Running a key on relay set up would still allow the ECM to do its thing after shut down and you would not run the risk of killing your battery.

Does Radio Shack carry the relays that I would need? I just remember in college my I&E buddies were always buying stuff from Radio Shack.

I'm a piping designer so electricity is not my forte. Although I did wire my entire house and it hasn't burned down! I understand house wiring better than automotive.

Thanks for all the help. Buellers are the best!
