xb12 factory race engine

I now have the motor, it's stamped "RACE USE ONLY" were the vin should be, anyone know how to tell if it's a 3.6" or anything special other than tearing it apart?
Contact HDFR. They might be able to help with a positive identification.

The 3.6 cases were the only special cases from the Buell Race Dept. They had other "Race Use Only" cases but they were the same as the factory cases. Any differences were a result of the engine builder modifying the cases to suit their build. The 3.6 cases have a trap door transmission, two crank case breather reed valves instead of one, and more material at the spigot holes so the deck height could be machined for various cylinder heights and engine strokes. You need to do a lot of measuring if yours is a 3.6 case before you go building it.

As far as engine numbers, the Buell engine numbers are nothing like the frame VIN numbers and will never match.

Exactly no, but the engine number is a shortened version of the frame vin, and absolutely "matches"

How about some pics of this mystery engine?

Sorry AZmidget. Yes, the last 6 digits of the VIN and engine number match on stock bikes but not the entire engine number.

I'll take some pics of my 3.6 case this weekend and post. I'll show comparisons to stock XB cases so the differences are clear.

What are you going to do with it banshee?

Not sure, spare motor I guess, I got it with a package deal with a 04 lightning frame with clean title and a d&d exhaust, I was more interested in the frame as I have a complete low mileage XB9 engine and too much spare plastics kicking around, going to put together a cheap bike to sell to get rid of some stuff... I'm running outa room...:upset:
