hey peeps, I need your guys assistance again, I was wondering about your throttle response on your xb12... quick? lag? fucking pain in the ass backfiring and dying?!? since I have gotten my bike it has been in the dealer, and they have ridden it more than I have. They keep saying that they havent found anything wrong but its bull shit!! I have shown them in the fucking parking lot what it was doing and they say "it's normal" or "its a buell thing" well that doesnt cut it with me! the manager told me that it happened to him a few times but according to tech services everything checked out. and that is really starting to piss me off. the first time I replaced the plugs they were pitch black and fouled out like crazy. what do I have to do to get these idiots to fix my damn bike?? sorry for the rant but I am pissed!!

You re obviously unhappy with the lack of service. Try another reputable shop. Hope you get er sorted out.

brand new 09 bike, and i am barely moving the throttle. but it will do it no matter how much i move the throttle

It shouldn't happen when you're gentle with the throttle.

My bike stumbles (but doesn't die) when I crack the throttle to show off at stoplights, and I think that that's pretty normal.

Does this happen after the bike has warmed up considerably?

My 08 does it everynow and then. I hope to work it out with a little tuning on it in the near future though. Also mine is more of a cough through the air box, but it never dies. Just hesitates.

That cough is a misfire.

It can definitely be adjusted through tuning, but it also usually goes away once the bike has totally warmed up.

It pretty much is obviously needs a tuneup.
Now when I say tuenup, I don't mean new parts...I mean rework the fuel and ignition maps so the thing runs correctly.
And yeah, you are correct in thinking it should be better than what you describe.
There is zero need to put up with a crappy running engine.
The Harley dealers can't help you.

I've got three Buells -
04, XB12R
05, XB12S
09, 1125CR

They ALL...needed new maping to run "correctly". And no, the maps you'll get as updates from Harley/Buell...will only get you sorta close...at best.

There is a few ways of tuning your ECM for more proper fuel and timing management.
Do some homework/hunting on the different web boards, you'll find them.

My xb9r will do the cough and backfire only when I do not let it warm up good,I did a tuneup and that helped a lot.:)

I just hacked my exhaust and my 09 12r is doing the same thing. I can barely get it moving at all and it pops constantly. I'm sure with some ECM tuning it will be back to normal. Did you upgrade or change anything recently?

my 09xb12ss was doin this also i put on the jardine exhaust with a k&n filter and erick buell race ecm and it was fixed!

With good tuning it will go away and run like a dream. Tuning is so important on these bikes and will make a night and day difference. Stock my bike ran like crap and backfired like crazy. After tuning it with my wideband for the past month it purrs like a kitten. Well more like a 400 pound vibrator! Now I just changed to a different exhaust for more top end and I am back to scratch tuning it again. Maps are way off. Another couple weeks and I will get it purring again!
