I'm new to the buell scene so please excuse my lame questions. I live in South Florida and we've been freezing in the 50's this past week haha. So I took this 2009 buell xb12r out that we just bought to ride as father/son. I took it off the rear stand and it was in N but when I tried to roll forward it acted like it was in gear and then after a harder push forward it popped into N all the way. Then after I let it warm up, it seemed to be idling very low. Just at 1k rpms and I stalled it at a light. After that, I kept the revs higher at each pull away and made it around town ok. Maybe because of the cold it was idling less? I looked in the manual and it says that it can't be adjusted. Is that true? I WAS going to take it to the dealer for the standard 1,000 mile check but I didn't want to pay $300+ for an idle adjustment..yeah they were going to adjust my non-adjustable idle. What's the truth? Adjustable or not? And maybe it could have been idling slow because I have a Jardine pipe on it without the insert so quite a bit of back pressure is lost? Anyone who's good with these bikes please feel free to inform me. Thanks

even without paying for the 1k check up the dealer should look at it for you under warranty.

Did it stop stalling later in the ride? sometimes my bike wont find N without moving the bike forward or back a few inches or disengaging the re engaging the clutch with it running. (not enough to move the bike just enough for the clutch plates to turn a bit.)

The idle adjustment is behind the left side scoop of the engine. Mine was zip tied to the engine brace, hard to see without removing the scoop.

1000 rpm is not low for these engines. If you are used to rice rockets, it may seem low but it is actually normal. You may just have to get used to the different riding style. It wouldnt hurt let the dealer check it under warranty though.

It's my dad's bike and he rode it today because the temperature was a little higher. No problem with neutral and no problems with the stalling. It is right around 1k for idle and I probably just didn't have it fully in neutral. If it keeps happening then I'll get it checked. Thanks for the info. And the idle adjustment is behind the scoop?

And the idle adjustment is behind the scoop?
No. Trill just missed the -'09- part of your post. '07-newer bikes control the Idle with the ECM. The older models had the adjustment he was speaking of.

AFINLEY! Where is He...Big Wake said Backpressure!
(Sorry Bigwake, a little inside joke I had to slide in.)

Haha it's ok. I probably said something stupid but I know that a couple cruisers we've had were with straight pipes and we ended up putting baffles in so that we had some more back pressure and they lowered the sound.

Bigwake,

On the older model bikes (pre '08) when a TPS reset was performed the idle was set at 1000 RPM's. I'm sure this is the case with the newer models as well. I think the ultimate solution here is more Buell seat time. Go out and grab one since they're at a great price.[up][up]

Yeah we got the 09 for a good price with 1,900 miles from the original owner for my dad. I have a Honda RC51 coming in from Texas tomorrow :D . I'll see how it goes.
