I'm currently looking to put different levers on my XB and was wondering what others have used.

The problem I'm having with my stock ones is that I typically only use 2 fingers to shift and break but the stock levers hit my ring and pinky fingers every time (annoying)...

Does anyone have any suggestions on a brand?
 
ASV Shorties! [up] Contact us if you'd like to order a set. They're not as cheap as some but there's absolutely no comparison. You can fully adjust them to eliminate the situation you describe.
 
I also vote for cheap levers. Just not too cheap;) The mid grade levers are fine, and break just like $$ ones when you knock it over in the driveway.

You can buy ones 3 times the cost and brag about how nice the box is, but it's still just CNC'd aluminum.
 
Pardon my ignorance but why do people change the levers? Is it mostly for looks? Is there a noticeable feel difference? Is the adjust-ability really beneficial? Angle of pull different?

I run the stock levers and have no complaints. Just wondering?

I kind of agree with lawdog. I put the modified levers on my XB and ended up going back to stock as it felt much better to me. Personal preference I suppose.
 
why do people change the levers
In my case there's several reasons:
- shorty's facilitate 2-finger operation better
- shorty's provide less leverage so the risk of a 'panic-grab' lockup is reduced (though we should still all be regularly practicing our threshold braking technique)
- they're adjustable
- they're marginally lighter
- less likely to get caught on my clothing & coveralls while I'm moving bikes around in my small garage
 
1) It's a wider range of adjustment because these Hulk hands ain't built for fixing watches!

2) Shorties for 2 fingers, I can't stand squishing my own fingers between the grip and lever.

3) And looks (aw shucks, you caught me;))
 
I would go crg...
I'm more of a fan of the switch clicker then the asv roll clicker. Much easier to do on the fly.
Also.... I have crash tested the crg shorties and trust me they bend but don't break.

The last set of crgs that I bought i had them custom made with the black lever with a gold clicker and I want to say that I paid $75 a lever shipped from crg direct..

now a side note:
you might also want to check your front pads... When the pads wear down it increases the throw on the brake lever. Which will make the lever touch the bars.

If the ASV break, they're replaced for free...even in an accident. ;)

There are plenty threads on this topic so feel free to read up on it but I'll say I was a "nay-sayer" until I installed my ASV levers. They're great for all the reasons above. To say that they're "just a CNC'd chunk of aluminum" is just not the way to look at it IMO. We'd all be driving cheap bikes from Pep Boys, Walmart or wherever if that's all that mattered. Engineering & quality control play a huge part in this more than just the machine they're made of or the hunk of material used. This is your brake system, we're talking about...Your life is worth more than $100 in savings. Again...just my opinion based on my experiences. Do whatever makes sense to YOU.
 
When the pads wear down it increases the throw on the brake lever.
This used to be the case on old-school cable-pull drum brakes, but a hydraulic disc brake is self-adjusting to compensate for pad wear with extra fluid from the reservoir.
 
Looked a the 50dro site, pretty neat stuff on there, the pulley guard is the $hit!

I'll try the ASV Short throw levers and see how they work, lord knows I need a warranty that includes an accident lmfao.

As with most everything cheap… Be careful of the fitment when you install them.

When you install them, make SURE that the brake lever is NOT pre-loading the master cylinder piston. If it is, you MUST shave down that part of the lever or your front brake could lock-up when you use it and not release= Bad day.
 
Good point cooter. I'm thinking of going for the 7 clicks ones that 06xb12ss_lover suggested. Not fond of the 2-4 week shipping though :-/. Just don't have 250+ to spend on asv levers
 
For the record, we sell ASV levers for $162 or $225 for the set shipped. ;)
 
I hear ya 50dro. Just a lot of dime to drop on a aluminum lever. Anyone know if new levers come with a new pin? Mine is messed up from previous owner
 
No pin, especially from China. They are fairly universal though. I don't know if there's a difference in the pin in a radial vs regular master cylinder, but if yours is stock (non-radial) then most of them interchange.
 
Mine aren't stock.It has an unknown brand of shorty adjustable levers on it. Previous owner dropped it on left sidd..so clutch lever pin is messed up and whole lever wobbles up and down. Anyone know where u can pick up just the pin maybe?
