Fellow buell riders I'm forced to crack open the cases on my 2005 xb 12 r for the second time now my shifter drum has failed between third and fourth gear basically the machined aluminum worm trail at the lift point has failed I'm looking for another shifter drum and hoping there is a cure for this problem please all the info on possible cures and leads on parts would be great thanks .

Interesting.. I've had shift forks bend and break, dogs break and I've had the spiral gear in the 2006-up trans break and cause damage to the shift drum but never had just the shift drum fail.

How many miles does the bike have and are you running it gp style?

And I believe I have a good shift drum... I will look in the morning.

Common failure on 03-05

06+ had steel lined drums, rarely fail.

BJ of bear racing has a shift drum & entire 06+ trans which can be fitted to all XB motors

06+ transmissions -can- fit in 03-05 engine cases -but- the proper bearings can't fit so you better not make the swap! The helical gears of the 06+ trans require the angular contact main output drive bearing which will not fit in 03-05 cases.

The bike has around 25000 miles on it and no I'm not running it gp style it dose have very aggressive cams ,it's been piped ,running a Eric buell race only ecm. aggressive carbon fiber clutch . I'm using only high quality redline transmission fluid. I changed to what they recommend I think it's 75-90 I'll have to double check
