Hey guys seems like I'm running into many problems with my bike. After solving one problem another comes into play. More so problems from buying a used bike that a jack@ss used to own.
So I noticed that the guy who had it before me had ONLY one o2 sensor in the rear header. Is this a problem? I changed the plugs and found that the front spark plug was crazy black!!carbon!!. You guys think this is from the missing o2 sensor? Also I found that I'm only getting about 140 kilometers on a tank. So I'm thinking the ecm is dumping crazy gas to the motor. What do you guys think? I have a spy on its way so I'll know for sure very soon. You guys also think it's just easiest to buy the race ecm? Correct problem?

I have a k&n filter(not installed) and plan on doing the drummer exhaust. I was planning on doing the upgrades in the winter but if you guys think the race ecm will fix the o2 sensor issue then it looks like I may be upsetting my wife this weekend.(lol)

Just want to say this form is one of the best forms I've ever been on. You guys are so awesome and knowledgeable!! hope you all have a wonderful day. Ride safe boys/gals!!!!

Also i cant seem to find a pdf download book for my bike. Is there much difference from 2008 to 2010 xb12s? Thanks dellinger for the part number, i have it coming!.

I haven't had a chance to look . To be honest I wouldn't even know where to start looking for the sensor connection. Any ideas? I can't seem to find a book 2009 2010 models. I'm from Alberta Canada and the Harley Davidson dealerships here won't have anything to do with my bike. In fact when I asked about ordering certain parts they just seem to get upset with me..

8 years later…
Wondering what ever happened to the op’s bike?

It appears the 2009 & 2010 xb12ss was produced with only one o2 sensor which is located in the rear header. IMG_1648.jpg

I'm sure he got it fixed and gave the usual thank you for the info. (Ghost)
FYI, all XB's came with a single O2 in the rear head pipe. The limited run 2010MY was the only year they had sensors in both pipes.

Thanks for the info Cooter ;).
When I bought my 09 xb12ss, I thought of waiting till a local dealer got a 2010 model that was about to be released. I was told nothing had changed other than LED lights. They gave me what I thought was a great deal on the 09, and I bought what they were selling. A month later I found out why when HD had their brain fart.
Maybe the op’s 2010 came out of the factory with the bolt in the front header pipe. It may have been one of the last bikes out the door.

I’m assuming this means the ECM is making adjustments on only one cylinder.
That doesn’t seem to make sense.
Am I missing something?

Yes. In part throttle cruising situations (closed loop), the single rear O2 is used to tell the ECM what the entire engine is outputting and very quickly controls what is going in to get that mixture perfect. It modifies both cylinders as one engine (with a small modifier for the front).

Adding the second O2 sensor allows the ECM to see what each cylinder is outputting separately and therefore separately modify what each cylinder gets input (mixture). It's slightly more accurate by treating each cylinder as a separate engine than just one output for both. You'll never feel any difference and there would never be any power difference as this all happens in Closed loop.
