Hi guys, I just bought an 09' XB12Scg and notice the preload setting on the rear is at position 3. I'm 5'6" and weight about 145lbs. I'm thinking I should be flat footed on both feet right? If I change the preload to position 1 do you think the bike will be lower for me to get flat footed? thx

When you put your weight on it, it will lower a bit because your softening the suspension. look at the manual, I have an scg and mine is set at 1, weight 130, 5'8 and I can flat foot easily in boots, a little harder in normal shoes.

3 is a little high for 146 though.. try lowering it, it will have a softer suspension.

weird. i'm turning the preload adjuster and it's not doing anything. the line is currently on 2 and stays there.

Please read the manual...

Also there is a tool in your buell kit for adjusting the rear shock.

i did.. the rear adjusted fine but i'm having a problem with the front fork preload. i turned the preload adjuster nut counterclock-wise first until it stops and nothing changed. then i turned it clock-wise about 5 to 8 times and nothing change. what am i doing wrong?

Are you turning the right part?

You should literally be turning the nut that has the adjustment lines engrave on it.

Maybe adjust the dampening and compression first?

i'm adjusting the red nut for preload.

The red nut is your preload adjuster. accordind to the manual for your weight you should be at 5 turns in from all the way counterclockwise.
You won't see anything move(lines) at the top of your forks unless you raise the forks in the trees by loosening the pinch bolts.

Forks wont lower by adjusting your settings. Slip the forks is best option.

you need to read up on what your different adjustments mean and how they will effect you bike.

yea you adjust the suspension to your weight, if its too low you can damage it. If you want to be flat footed, I recommend getting a low seat, that should do the trick.

Use a wrench to adjust black nut, that is your preload. The red nut is your damping adjustment, and the silver slotted adjustment is your rebound.

The black nut will turn, it appears you have 2 1/2 or maybe 3 lines showing. I think you can have up to 5 lines exposed? You will want the front a little lower than the rear for better turn in.

Preload adjustments will not change the ride height of a bike except in the case of "sag" which is the amount the rear end lowers when you sit on the bike. To lower the bike, you must slide the forks up in the clamps and/or change the length of the springs. The shock, since Buells don't have a linkage, must either be replaced with a shorter shock, or a shorter spring.

Don't listen to this, this is not correct. Get your self a manual for your bike and do the correct adjustments.
