I just swapped my lower fender from my XT with a forum member (SCREW you Alien! ...jk, thanks for the fender!) and I have a question about the lower fender clips which attach the fork protectors to the lower fender.

My lower fender came with the two rear clips but no front clips. Should I get the official clips from HD or will I be fine putting on a few nuts from Lowes with some loctite? I believe that the HD part no. is C0108.K for the fender clips, but if someone with a parts manual could verify that I'd greatly appreciate it.

Anyway, here are some pics (minus two bolts):

And before the swap:

Hahahahaha!!!

I would think any screw/bolt that is the right size used with loctite should be just fine. If the aren't stainless, maybe give them a quick spray with some black Rustolium paint or something.

They sell those clips, I believe they are called U Clip Nuts, at most Auto Parts stores. I have seen them at Autozone as well as a NAPA for example. I would see if they match the original clips you have just in case there is something special with them? Not sure if a nut and washer would be the way to go? Or it might be a better way to go, just saying.... there is a brake line right there, next to the front tire, mounted on the fork, etc... just be safe with it.

Is that the only difference between the X and the XT, is the front fender? It looks just like my 2009 X with your changes.

Wow... also just noticed the hand guards, they definitely look better than the stock ones, functionally anyways.
Did you add them? I have the stock ones and have had them come unclipped at the bar ends going into a head wind before. I imagine there are other situations the stock hand guards would not hang in there when you need them? Are these hand guards more adjustable than the stock ones, they look like it. Also look like they are not going to come off the bar ends, at least without a fight.
Also what are the thermos looking cyclinders on the top trunk?
Sorry for all the questions, just digging your Uly!

Alien: thanks. I figured it'd be fine using a bolt/nut. Thx again for the fenders!

Tbone: THe brake line shouldn't contact the bolt/nut but thanks for your concern and for the info re: uclip nuts. The handguards are Barkbuster Storm handguards. I believe I got them online at twisted throttle? I've never adjusted them, just threw em on and never looked back. Oh, and the xb12x has another 2 inches of suspension and 1.5 inches ground clearance I believe. Also, the XT comes stock with heated grips and luggage.

I bought a Uly from Alien, great bike! Too bad it's missing the lower fender ... I'm searching for one now.

I have a lower fender that I would make a deal on. It is in good shape, but I trimmed the little lip off one side of the fork protector because the previous owners dog had chewed it a little. I was going to cut the other side to make it symettrical, but I bought a black fender and have been using that instead. Let me know if you are interested, and I'll send you pics.
