xb9 no spark, stator, reg/rec wiring help

I would work on your no spark first. The bike will start and run with the stator disconnected. Just make sure the three wires coming off your stator are taped up and don't touch ground or each other.

One of the steps to check your stator is to unplug it and run the bike to test output.

Work the no start first.

alright now that makes sense. I was thinking the stator would have to be connected in order to generate spark

But... the two wire harness going to your regulator, bike side connector has one red, one black. Touching your test light between those should light your test light as they are connected to your battery.

Just checked this, it does

OK. Now its narrowed down to a spark signal problem. The 3 wire connector on the cam sensor has a red wire with white stripe. Unplug it. Let the wires going into the cam cover dangle. Check for key on power between the red/white wire bike side and ground. It should be 5 volts DC. It will light your test light dim. Does that have key on power?

ok so the red wire going to the cam sensor has power with the key on. I used the black wire as the ground. I also pulled the cam sensor out and the rotor does spin when I crank it. is there a way to test the cam sensor? or cant you get it from auto zone, like for a mustang?

just did the code test got
36 fan voltage
15 intake air temp sensor
16 battery voltage
not sure if that tells us anything

just realized I have the temp sensor unplugged so that doesn't tell me anything. the battery is brand new but I have been cranking it quite a bit. still spins it over fine

Well it is running. turns out I had a couple of the cam sensor wired mixed up with the other sensor wires that is right above the pully by the starter. switched them around and it fired right up, 2 year old gas and everything.

Thanks for the help nicholas900

just reading this post and i have a related issue. can the three wires coming out of the stator be connected in any order, as the male end is seperated from the wires and im not sure if they have to go back in a set order 1,2,3 (where the wires connect in 4 pin plug before they go to the voltage regulator) or the can go in any order and it will still work without frying anything?

^This is correct there is not a specific order. They just represent the 3 legs of the stator
