What would I expect to pay for these, and would you go used or new? What brand would you suggest? I saw a set of NRHS hurricane pistons for about $309, but I want to get ideas for my winter project. Does anyone have a set they would be willing to let go cheap?

You caught me! I'm already pulling power wheelies. I want something that will kick @$$ on the street. I've already run 12:1 on the street, so this should be a walk in the park...that is more fun to ride!

Please report back with results as they are few and far between, especially current ones [up]

You'll have to do some number crunching to figure that one out. I think I did some once, but with the xb9 pistons with xb12 heads. I don't think your head gasket can get much thinner and wouldn't raise compression much at all. Give cometic a call to see what sizes they carry.

I also agree on performance pistons, which are usually always lighter. Unless you can get an awesome deal on a good used set.

cometic will get you thicker, he's thinking the 9 pistons in the 12, which will put you at 12:1 with the stock thickness, I think the thicker will take it down to like 11.8 or so

I'll say with the 9 pistons it pulls a lot harder, and I only paid 100 for them used.

I just recently got a piston kit (piston/wristpin/rings) from my local Hardly Davidson dealer for $220 for my 12R... May be worth while pricing out OEM.. I actually couldn't believe it..

I have found a set of pistons from NRHS and from Wiseco. They are both about $350 shipped. Once winter comes around, I think I'm going to go with those and the .030 cometic gasket kit
