Hi everyone, I just bought a '09 Buell XB9SX--my first encounter with an American bike. I've had it for a week, only have 85 miles on it, and everything was great until yesterday, when I cranked it around mid-day (sunny, mid-70's)-- it took 2 tries to start and blew a little black smoke out of the exhaust. Everything was fine after that and it ran well, and started first try later on in the day. Today around lunchtime, mid-60's temp, it took three tries to start her up, and just the hint of smoke at the exhaust. She was low on gas and I filled her up. Is this just normal break-in hiccups or should I be calling the dealer?

I remember mine spit some black smoke and stuttered on start up when it was new. Probably just break-in hiccups.

If you've been letting it idle extensively long, or starting it to show it off and shutting down without a ride - might have fouled your plugs. NGK Iridium (DCPR9EIX) are the bomb, very foul-resistant.
