So Ive been thinking a bit recently about some performance upgrades for my XB9. Does anyone know the advantages to putting an xb12 throttle body and headers on an xb9? Got some money and figure I might as well do some stuff dealing with engine instead of just cosmetic lol.

Thanks for any information,

A guy I worked with put a Vrod T-body on his 12, remapped it and said it ran like a big bore kit. Never rode it myself but saw it accelerate. Pretty impressive.

PointDoc?

+1 ?

also, the 12 headers on a 9 cause a loss in power, they were made that way because the pressure increased performance. I believe the throttle body would be an upgrade though.

Thanks for the info guys.

Also wolfo how much of a loss in power? I am planning on doing a bore kit on it down the road, probably later this year so I think doing that will equal out putting the headers on right?

I'm not sure exactly, I'll look for it tomorrow when I have time. if I remember right someone had posted dyno sheets on one of the boards

looks like xopti did it to his bike, and he had gains. but he's a tuning wizard and he spends serious time on his stuff. not sure what kind of time you want to put into it.

I can never get the embed to work so here is the xopti url

Why does everyone insist on putting performance mods on a 9?? Just take off the aftermarket parts sell the bike and reinstall on a 12. Way easier than dicking with the motor, and one day if you actually want a lot of power you can mod the 12.

lol the 12 really isn't hardly any faster than the 9, I've ridden both. It's just a trade between low end and top end.

Hardly? Come on now. If it wasn't much faster they wouldn't bother making it. The power difference is significant however it is all in the rider. When I was starting to learn the ways around my 12 I used to get smoked by 9's all day. Now that I have learned how to ride the bike I can actually get almost all the power out of the 12. You cannot learn how to use all the power that the 12 has to offer unless you have had a lot of seat time on one. Took me almost a whole season.

I personally think it's fun to mess with these motors. and don't diss the 9, there's a reason people mod them instead of the 12. not saying modding a 12 isn't worth it, but there seems to be more of an interest because of the short stroke.

I wasn't dissing anything. It just seems like an easier solution from what I have read because it seems that modding these motors seems to significantly alter the life of them.

Well the difference is only 11 hp. I agree rider is the key. Many actually prefer the 9 for racing as it has the shorter stroke and can rev higher, just saying. Really they are nearly identical engines, one with more low end torque, the other making more higher rpm power. I don't know why they made two when they are nearly the same thing...baffles me...

Either way, it definitely isn't stupid to mod a 9.

2004xb12s, simply put.. im happy with the engine I have now but I am the kind of person that always loves to do something different. Doesnt matter if its a 9 or a 12 to me.. im still going to do the same thing. Right now I have a 9 available to me so thats what Im working on.

That link won't open.

If you're talking about ECMSpy, I should have all the files still for the ECMSpy install and all the drivers. I'll have to double check. I might be able to hook you up when you get back. (I probably won't be going back across the pond as they originally thought - I'm back as of right now)
