My 2006 xb9r has 6800 miles. It just started leaking a small amount of oil out of the breather located in the compartment under the rear seat. How do I fix this? It never did this before.

is this after the breather re-route? I have an xbs, so I'm not sure what it looks like under an xbr seat, but I'm not sure what compartment it's leaking oil into.

May just need a new gasket (#16) if the leak is around that area.

I'm working on the pics. Slightly computer illiterate. It is a breather that is located under the passenger seat and leaking oil into the compartment and then it leaks down through a hole onto the swing arm. I bought the bike this summer and I'm guessing that it is probably a reroute since no one knew what I was talking about.

I got the picture sorry it is so big. Like I said, I'm quite computer illiterate. Anyway, the entire breather is saturated with oil.

Ok. That is gonna be quite painless. Could you tell me why it is doing this when it wasn't before? Or is this just something that happens and isn't a real problem?

to answer your question, my guess would be that the breather line is full, and hasn't been drained in a while, thus causing the oil and junk to fill all the way up to the filter and it is now leaking from there.

I cleaned out the breather line and the problem is completely gone. I feel stupid for not knowing this before hand but thank you everyone for your help.

may i know what is the parts number of new gasket (#16) ? my rear cyclinder leaking so crazy....

Are you sure that breather is coming off the PCV's at the top of the rockerbox covers? It would be attached to PN 16 in the diagram posted earlier. If it is, then that is the breather reroute that is most common with our bikes. If that breather is coming from somewhere behind the rear cylinder, in between the starter and the rear cylinder, then it's your transmission vent line. If that is the vent line, then check your fluid levels. I believe an over filled primary might cause the transmission vent line to puke oil.
There's also a seal that causes the vent line to puke oil.
BUT if that is NOT the transmission vent line then you have no worries

hi, the breather can pull out from the cover very easy.

is that a lock on the breather too keep that in?

Is that the gasket (16) too old ?

and there is engine oil coming out from the gap between gasket(16) and the breather.

Thank you

I know the original is from 2010, but GDA if you have done the breather reroute, then clean it first. If the tube clogs, it will force the fluid out other places. When mine clogged, it came out PCV valves.

BTW GDA I would recommend replacing the breathers/PCV's and the associated grommets. Parts 16&17 from the service manual pic that was posted nearly 5 years ago! Any Harley dealer will carry them or you can order through ASB. I think they'll run you about $15 a piece.
Unfortunately, I believe the engine has to be rotated down slightly to get the front one out and the new one back in. Not an entirely difficult thing to do just a little time consuming. There's a how to rotate your engine somewhere on this board that will take you through it step by step.
Good luck

Thank you.

I asked the harley dealer but they told me we can not order that .

Do that sell on ebay?
