2003 XB9R. The service manual states to pop out the rubber grommet and pull the cable and the connector out of the hole in the case. The connector on my stator is too large to fit through that hole. I guess I have to remove the pins on the connector but I don't see how to do it. Is there a trick to this or a special tool to dissasemble the stator connector. The manual shows the connector slipping right through the hole and makes no mention of taking it apart.

No special tools need to remove the pins / sockets in the Deutsch connectors. If you refer to section B6-B9 in the downloadable Firebolt Service Manual it has a detailed description and this is a screen capture of the 4-pin connectors (the stator uses 3 holes of a 4=pin connector.

The stator has female sockets so you need to:
1. Remove the locking wedge (item 6) with long nosed pliers.
2. For each socket, use a small instrument screwdriver or similar to gently release the plastic locking tab and withdraw the wire & socket (item 1) from the housing (item 3) via the wire seal (item 2).

The early XB stator has 3 AC outputs and the order is not important but if you want to be sure you put it all back together the same as it was you could mark the wires and take note of their position in the connector (the housing has each socket position marked - 1-2-3-4).
Position 4 should be the one with the blanking plug).

Assembly is less work as the sockets click into place and once all 3 are fitted refit the locking wedge.

Once you see how it is done it really is one of the simpler connectors you will come across. :)

Thanks Rays ,They are usually easy to work with. The plugs parts are getting hard to come by at just one plug at a time.Dealers are getting kinda Crappy.[igCable] make sure to take your time due to the heat may make it fragile. Also the connector itself may have small numbers. I have seen some for reasons unknown that some plugs don't have any numbers at all. A tiny Flat Screwdriver like for adjusting a Wrist watch set can sometimes help with the tabs. *Jimi

OPPS, I Forgot to mention also PLEASE Make sure to put in NEW Stator Bolts!! Do not use the old ones and don't Torque them to much as the Threads can strip out or break off the Head of the small bolts. NO Thread sealer is needed be Gentle & it will work out nicely.*Jimi;)
